Lead AI Engineer, Mortgage Automation

The Role
We're seeking a Lead AI Engineer to set technical direction for AI powered agents and automation across the mortgage lifecycle, orchestrating workflows using AI workflow tools, MCP, AWS Step Functions, and Lambda across a multi cloud AI stack (OpenAI, Anthropic, GCP, Azure). You'll architect solutions, mentor engineers, and partner with business stakeholders to transform traditional mortgage processes into intelligent experiences.
Compensation & Work Environment
- Salary range: $160,000 to $180,000 annually, depending on experience
- Location: Remote
- Full time, exempt
Responsibilities
- Lead end to end design, delivery, and deployment of autonomous and semi autonomous AI agents across the mortgage value chain, setting best practices and technical standards for the team.
- Architect cloud based process flows and integrations using AI workflow tools, MCP, Step Functions, and Lambda, connecting to platforms like LOS, CRM, and POS.
- Integrate and fine tune LLMs to automate underwriting processes, including document classification, condition management, and intelligent routing.
- Reverse engineer legacy systems and undocumented business logic to design agent based replacements.
- Evaluate new models, frameworks, and third party AI tools, including build versus buy decisions.
- Perform data analysis on structured and unstructured mortgage data to guide agent design and prioritization.
- Mentor mid level and junior engineers, conduct code reviews, and uphold engineering standards.
- Use AI coding tools daily (Claude Code, Copilot, Cursor, Devin, or equivalent) as a core part of your workflow. Be ready to walk through real examples in the interview.
Qualifications
- 8+ years in AI application development, automation engineering, or full stack cloud engineering, including prior technical leadership.
- Proven hands on experience with agentic frameworks, LLM integration (OpenAI, Anthropic, GCP, or Azure AI/ML services), and AWS Lambda/serverless architecture.
- Experience with AI workflow orchestration tools, MCP, and evaluating third party AI integrations.
- Strong proficiency in Python and JavaScript, RESTful APIs, cloud native integrations, and infrastructure as code.
- Familiarity with LangChain, Transformers, or similar AI/ML libraries, and SQL/pandas for data analysis.
- Track record of mentoring engineers and leading technical initiatives.
- Mortgage or fintech automation experience a strong plus.
