    Lead Anesthesia Technician

    UPMC is searching for a full-time Lead Anesthesia Technician to support 3 different locations. This role would travel to help support UPMC East and McKeesport hospitals as well as the West Mifflin Surgery Center. Shifts are anywhere between 5:30am-6pm and there may be opportunity to work 4x10 or 3x12 hour shifts instead of typical 5x8 hour shifts. Rotating weeknight and weekend on-call time is required with this role.

    This Lead coordinates the activities of our Anesthesia Technicians and Associates and will be responsible for the completion of all shift-related tasks. An Anesthesia Technician performs a variety of duties related to the processing and preparing of room, equipment and supplies for the patients undergoing anesthetic procedures.

    Graduate from an accredited Anesthesia Tech school and 3 years of progressive anesthesia tech experience is required for this Lead title.

    A generous sign-on bonus is available for this role: bonus amounts range from $10,000-$15,000 based on experience and paid out to you in a one-lump sum within your first 90 days!

    Responsibilities:

    • Assists with Accudose training. Trained to perform ABGs.
    • Submits daily orders for both inside and outside orders.
    • Assign Anesthesia Associates and/or Technicians to perform preventative/periodic maintenance, when within the scope of their job, as required.
    • Anticipate the needs of Anesthesia department personnel.
    • Perform all the responsibilities of an Anesthesia Technician II on a daily basis.
    • Troubleshoots Anesthesia equipment problems such as oxygen sensors; flow sensors; cable checks; EKG paper.
    • Maintain certification by completing the annual requirements for continuing education.
    • Monitor the usage of supplies and equipment in order to promote cost-effectiveness and efficiency. Makes recommendations to meet budget goals.
    • Trains, mentors, and orients Anesthesia Associates or Anesthesia Students as needed
    • Maintain an adequate inventory of supplies, drugs (if a satellite pharmacy is not available to a particular pavilion and small equipment.
    • Assist with the evaluation of new equipment and supplies and provides input into the decisions about their acquisitions.
    • Maintain personal growth and development by participating in the in-service and continuing education programs.
    • Follows up on reported malfunctions by evaluating the equipment in question and arranges for repair or replacement if necessary. Keeps Chief Anesthesiologist and Director / Assistant Clinical Director Nurse Anesthesia informed of all equipment problems, user errors and/or trends.
    • Provide input in performance appraisals of Anesthesia Technicians and Anesthesia Aides.
    • Direct the work of the Anesthesia Associates and /or Anesthesia Technicians and the Anesthesia Aides. Assign their activities to meet clinical needs and ensures the completion of assigned tasks.
    • High School Diploma or GED or Graduate from an accredited Anesthesia Tech school and 3 years of progressive anesthesia technician experience required OR if ASATT Certified Anesthesia Technician, HS Diploma or Graduate from an accredited Anesthesia Tech school and 2 years of progressive anesthesia technician experience required
