Lead Assistant Coach - April 2027 - Jul 2027 Swim Season

Rate: $28/hr

The Lead Assistant Coach plays a critical leadership role in supporting the Head Coach/Aquatics Director by overseeing daily coaching operations, athlete development, meet preparation, and staff management. These positions serve as leaders within the coaching staff and are responsible for executing the Head Coach's vision while managing designated operational areas. Responsibilities are shared between the two Lead Assistant Coaches and the Head Coach, with clearly assigned leadership areas to ensure accountability and eliminate overlap.

Leadership Responsibilities

Each Lead Assistant Coach will be assigned specific leadership areas and will take ownership of those responsibilities throughout the season. Responsibilities may include:

• Leading practice planning and workout development.
• Supervising assistant coaches and interns.
• Managing meet operations and logistics.
• Overseeing swimmer engagement and team culture.
• Coordinating awards and recognition.
• Supporting communication and daily program operations.

Practice Planning and Coaching

• Develop daily practice plans and workouts based on the Head Coach's seasonal training objectives.
• Lead practices when assigned and ensure workouts are executed effe     ctively.
• Provide instruction, technique correction, and encouragement to swimmers of all levels.
• Maintain a positive, energetic, and disciplined practice environment.
• Monitor swimmer progress and communicate observations to the Head Coach.

Athlete Engagement

• Build positive relationships with swimmers.
• Foster confidence, teamwork, sportsmanship, and accountability.
• Create an inclusive environment where every swimmer feels valued.
• Encourage athlete participation and personal growth.

Meet Operations

• Prepare and submit meet entries using SwimTopia with the head coach.
• Create relay lineups and coordinate changes as needed.
• Maintain extensive working knowledge of SwimTopia, including athlete entries, relay management, scratches, reports, and meet administration.
• Conduct pre-meet heat sheet reviews and verify athlete entries.
• Develop and lead age-group specific warm-up plans for all meets.
• Support swimmers throughout competitions by providing race strategy, feedback, and encouragement.

Staff Leadership

• Supervise and mentor intern coaches.
• Assign responsibilities to interns during practices and meets.
• Maintain regular communication with interns regarding schedules, expectations, and performance.
• Support the professional development of assistant coaches and future coaching staff.

Awards and Recognition

• Coordinate weekly and seasonal team awards.
• Create a fun, encouraging, and positive recognition program.
• Celebrate swimmer achievements while reinforcing sportsmanship, effort, and team values.

Team Building

• Organize team-building activities throughout the season.
• Plan games, relays, social events, and activities that promote inclusion and team spirit.
• Foster positive relationships among swimmers across all age groups.

Communication

• Maintain effective communication with the Head Coach and coaching staff.
• Assist with communicating practice updates, meet information, and team announcements as directed.
• Address swimmer questions and concerns professionally and respectfully.

Requirements

• Previous 5-10 years of competitive swimming and coaching experience.
• Strong knowledge of stroke technique, athlete development, and practice organization.
• Extensive experience using SwimTopia for meet management, entries, relays, and reporting.
• Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills.
• Ability to mentor assistant coaches and interns.
• Positive attitude with the ability to motivate swimmers of all ages.
• Current CPR, First Aid, and any required certifications (or ability to obtain prior to

• Monday, June 21 – Away Meet vs. CTCC
• Sunday, June 27 – Championship Meet at Georgia Tech (3:00 p.m.)
