Description

*This position is onsite at our New Rochelle, NY office.Position PurposeWe are seeking a Lead Automation Engineer to join our Digital Production team, responsible for building and delivering high-quality digital learning experiences at scale. This role sits at the intersection of software engineering, digital publishing, and instructional content delivery. You will develop automated workflows and scripts to transform structured and semi-structured source content (including print-originated materials) into dynamic, standards-compliant digital learning packages. You will also partner closely with editorial, design, and executive stakeholders to prototype new content experiences and improve production efficiency.This is a senior individual contributor role requiring strong technical depth, design awareness, and the ability to communicate effectively across both technical and non-technical audiences.This role directly contributes to delivering high-quality digital learning experiences to millions of users , enabling scalable, efficient production of content that powers our platform.Job ResponsibilitiesContent Production & AutomationDesign, build, and maintain scripts and tooling to generate digital learning packages at scaleUsing repeatable, template-based approaches, transform source materials (e.g., raw content, Adobe InDesign exports, XML/JSON, manuscripts) into structured outputsProduce and validate content across multiple formats, including:Complex HTML/CSS interactive contentPDF-based resources with navigable structuresCMI5-compliant learning modulesQTI-compliant assessments and test itemsEnsure output meets platform, accessibility, and standards compliance requirementsSystems & Workflow EngineeringDevelop and optimize automated pipelines for content transformation and packagingLeverage template-driven approaches with emphasis on repeatability / automationWork with structured data, metadata schemas, and content models to ensure consistency and scalabilityIdentify and eliminate bottlenecks in production workflowsImplement validation, logging, and error-handling mechanisms to ensure reliabilityPrototyping & InnovationRapidly prototype new content formats, layouts, and interaction modelsPartner with editorial and design teams to bring new product ideas to lifeEvaluate emerging standards, tools, and technologies for digital learning deliveryCross-Functional CollaborationServe as a technical partner to editorial, design, and product teamsTranslate complex technical concepts into clear, actionable insights for non-technical stakeholdersCollaborate directly with executive leadership on strategic initiatives and high-visibility projectsQuality & StandardsMaintain high standards for usability, performance, and visual fidelityContribute to best practices for digital production and content engineeringEnsure adherence to applicable standards and design guidelinesJob Requirements/Skills and ExperiencePrimary Qualifications5-8+ years of experience in a technical role (e.g., Software Engineer, Digital Production Engineer, Content Engineer)Strong scripting and programming skills (e.g., Python, JavaScript, or similar)Experience working with structured data formats (XML, JSON, CSV) and transformation toolsAdvanced proficiency in HTML and CSS, including building complex, responsive layoutsExperience building or maintaining automated workflows or content pipelinesStrong problem-solving skills and ability to debug complex production issuesExcellent communication skills with the ability to engage both technical and non-technical audiencesProven ability to operate independently in a senior individual contributor rolePreferred QualificationsExperience with eLearning standards such as CMI5, QTI, or SCORMFamiliarity with digital publishing workflows and tools (e.g., Adobe InDesign or similar)Experience working with large-scale content platforms or CMS/LMS systemsKnowledge of accessibility standards (e.g., WCAG)Experience with version control systems (e.g., Git) and CI/CD workflowsExposure to templating systems, content modeling, or markup transformation tools (e.g., XSLT)AttributesStrong engineering mindset with attention to detail and scalabilityDesign-aware—able to balance technical constraints with visual and user experience considerationsComfortable working in a fast-paced, high-visibility environmentCalm, rational, and solutions-oriented under pressureDemonstrates executive presence and professionalism in cross-functional interactionsCurious, adaptable, and motivated to continuously improve tools and processesSalary Range: $100,000 - $120,000*The base salary range represents the low and high end of the expected salary range for the position.
