Benefits:

New hourly full-time team members working 30 hours or more per week, will be eligible for the Company medical, dental and life insurance plans the first of the month following 60 days of full-time employment.

Full-Time team members are eligible to accrue Paid Time Off ("PTO") in accordance with the Company policy at a rate of 120 hours per year.

Full-Time team members are eligible for 7 paid holidays annually.

Part-Time team members are eligible to accrue Paid Sick Leave in accordance with state guidelines.

All team members 21 years and older are eligible to participate in the J.F. Shea Co., Inc. 401(k) plan after completion of 30 days of service.

POSITION OVERVIEW:

The Lead Café Attendant works closely with the Culinary Team and Café Attendants to ensure food meets standards for consistency of quality, portions and presentation and is delivered to guest in a timely manner. The Lead Café Attendant will also supervise FOH operations and serves food and beverages, providing prompt and courteous service to guests in the café or on a patio. This position reports to the Executive Chef.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Communicate the core values and mission of BlueStar Resort & Golf (BSRG) to support the achievement of company goals.
  • Greet and serve guests in an energetic and friendly fashion.
  • Build relationships with guests by answering menu questions and making beverage suggestions from the coffee and smoothie menu.
  • Take food and beverage orders and give food order to the kitchen.
  • Prepare beverages (including coffee drinks and smoothies), following standard recipes and presentation techniques; request clarification if needed.
  • Ensure a consistent set of superior standards of food service are meeting or exceeding employee and guest expectations.

  • Maintain effective communication between the team members regarding food operations, safety, and employee concerns.
  • Understand each menu item, the ingredients for each dish, and the standards for presentation. Know ingredients and possible allergens.
  • Monitor guest plates to ensure food meets standards for consistency of quality, portions, and presentation.
  • Communicate between kitchen staff and Servers to assure food is delivered to guest in a timely manner. Provide clear direction to the Café Attendants and maintain focus at the food line.
  • Keep the food line and surrounding area clean and organized with uncompromising levels of cleanliness.
  • Ensure that all opening and closing Attendants side work is complete at the beginning and end of the shift.
  • Serve food and beverages to guests at their tables indoors or outdoors on the patio.
  • Handle cash and card transactions, ensure charges are accurate, and return correct change to guests.
  • Maintain a safe and healthy work environment by keeping the work area clean and organized, following all sanitation standards.
  • Keep equipment clean and safely operating by following operating instructions; troubleshoot breakdowns, and perform preventative maintenance, if requested.
  • Report needed equipment repairs to a supervisor.
  • Ensure Attendants understand appropriate audit standards, service ware, table numbers/pagers and position numbers.
  • Communicate with F&B Director & Executive Chef on inventory, scheduling, and FOH & BOH issues.
  • Monitor the IBS system to ensure accurate entry into the system daily.
  • Notice and report potential safety issues or customer concerns to a supervisor.
  • Have a working knowledge of the resort facility to encourage guests to explore other services.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS / QUALIFICATIONS / SKILLS:

  • High School diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • One to three months related experience preferred.
  • Must meet the state and federal minimum age requirement for serving alcohol, if applicable.
  • Current Food Handlers card.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide; must be able to calculate discounts and percentages.
  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memorandums.
  • Ability to prepare beverages using bar equipment, while maintaining conversation with team members and guests, sometimes in a noisy environment.
  • Ability to speak effectively and present information to another person and in small group situations with guests and team members.
  • Ability to communicate positively and effectively with team members and supervisors about job tasks and responsibilities.
  • Ability to contribute to a productive and friendly work environment by maintaining a positive attitude and calm demeanor in a busy environment.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

This position typically operates in an indoor and outdoor cafe setting, with computer/register and beverage equipment use. When working on the patio or outdoors, there may be exposure to outdoor weather conditions and occasionally native wildlife. Depending on the equipment, the noise level in the work environment can be moderate to loud. Outdoor environments may require walking on cement or other terrain while carrying a tray with food and beverages and navigating typical obstacles, including, but not limited to, groups of people, tables and chairs, plants and the natural landscape.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to see, hear detailed information and speak clearly and understand the speech of another person. This position is active and requires standing and walking, and bending; using hands to fingers, touching and holding, and reaching with hands and arms. Frequent hand washing is required. The position requires the ability to occasionally lift and/or push or pull items weighing up to 20 pounds.
