    Description

    Lead Controls Systems Engineer

    Overview
    TRC Talent is partnering with a fast-growing engineering organization specializing in building automation and advanced control systems to hire a Lead Controls Systems Engineer. This full-time role will lead the design, implementation, and startup of building automation and industrial control systems while providing technical leadership for project teams. The position requires strong technical depth in PLC/DDC systems, HVAC control logic, and field integration, along with the ability to guide teams through full project lifecycles from design through commissioning.

    Key Responsibilities

    Project Leadership & Client Support

    • Lead project teams of 2-5 engineers, assigning tasks and providing technical guidance.

    • Facilitate customer meetings and design reviews.

    • Support proposal development through hardware and engineering cost estimates.

    • Maintain and grow customer relationships.

    Controls & Electrical Design

    • Develop instrument lists from P&IDs and select appropriate instrumentation and control hardware.

    • Create panel layouts, electrical schematics, and submittal packages.

    • Procure project hardware and support panel fabrication.

    • Inspect completed control panels and ensure quality standards.

    System Configuration & Testing

    • Configure HMIs, DDC, PLC, and DCS control systems.

    • Develop control algorithms and system documentation.

    • Conduct internal testing, quality assurance, customer demonstrations, and acceptance testing.

    System Startup & Commissioning

    • Deploy software and configurations to site systems.

    • Perform loop checks, calibration, tuning, and functional testing.

    • Troubleshoot installation issues and implement field modifications.

    • Support customer testing and provide end-user training on system operation and maintenance.

    Qualifications

    Education & Experience

    • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Controls, Automation, or a related technical field.

    • 3+ years of controls engineering or automation experience.

    Controls & Automation Expertise Experience with one or more of the following:

    • Rockwell FactoryTalk Suite, RSLogix/Studio 5000, PlantPAx

    • AVEVA System Platform

    • Ignition Perspective

    • Distech BACnet/LON and Eclypse Controllers

    Preferred experience:

    • Johnson Controls (Facility Explorer, Metasys)

    • Tridium Niagara N4

    • SQL and scripting languages (Python, VBA, etc.)

    • Kepware OPC Server, ThinManager, and VMware

    HVAC & Building Automation Knowledge

    • Understanding of HVAC systems and building automation applications.

    • Ability to interpret P&IDs and sequences of operation.

    • Experience creating and executing functional test plans.

    • Knowledge of instrumentation and control valve selection for HVAC systems.
