Description
Title: Lead Controls Engineer Company: Cummins (based on context: Seymour, IN engine platforms) Location: Hybrid Seymour/Spencer, IN (3 days onsite; more initially)
Must-Haves:
7 13+ years of hands-on experience (not overly senior/architect level)
Strong experience with HIL / SIL / simulation testing
ECU/ECM expe rience (engine controls environment)
Proficiency with MATLAB & Simulink (troubleshooting + modeling support)
Experience with calibration & tuning (tools such as INCA, Calterm, CDM, etc.)
Hardware & software bench testing experience
Strong validation & troubleshooting skills
Engineering degree (Mechanical, Electrical, or related)
Strong communication & collaboration abilities across teams
Plusses:
Experience with ISO / functional safety standards (e.g., audits, compliance)
Exposure to controls coordination or leading technical discussions
Experience working with global teams/test cells
Knowledge of engine subsystems and emissions/catalyst development
Day-to-Day:
Perform hands-on validation, calibration, and troubleshooting on ECM/ECU systems
Work extensively in test cells, labs, SIL/HIL environments
Run and participate in controls coordination meetings across teams
Execute and validate 4,000+ parameters within ECM systems
Collaborate with global test cell teams (17 total sites) to guide testing
Support software design reviews (present data, contribute slides, insights)
Work with engineering documentation and VPI checklists
Coordinate with subsystem teams to ensure integration alignment
Perform bench testing, harness validation, and system diagnostics
Learn and support ~ 90 system features (with ~10% new development work)
Minimal travel; primarily lab-based with occasional collaboration needs
