Tigg's Canteen Services is looking for a dependable leader to join our food service team!

Are you someone who takes pride in your work, enjoys working in a kitchen, and is comfortable taking on leadership responsibilities? Tigg's Canteen Services is currently hiring a Temporary Full-Time Lead Cook at the Porter County Jail in Valparaiso, Indiana.

This is an excellent opportunity for a motivated individual who can work effectively in a structured correctional environment while helping maintain a safe, organized, and productive kitchen.

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS

Starting Pay: $21.00 per hour

YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES

As a Lead Cook, you will play an important role in the daily operation of the facility kitchen. Your responsibilities will include:

• Leading, directing, and assisting inmates within the kitchen
• Providing direction and instruction during meal preparation
• Assisting with food preparation, baking, cooking, and clean-up
• Preparing meals according to company recipes and procedures
• Helping maintain a clean, safe, and organized kitchen
• Supporting daily kitchen operations and meal service
• Working professionally within a structured correctional environment
• Performing physical duties, including lifting up to 50 pounds

THE RIGHT CANDIDATE WILL HAVE

• A high school diploma or equivalent
• Strong leadership and communication skills
• A dependable and positive attitude
• The ability to work successfully in a structured correctional environment
• The ability to read and follow company recipes
• The ability to lead, instruct, and assist with kitchen duties
• The ability to lift up to 50 pounds
• A professional approach to working with staff and inmates

SCHEDULE & REQUIREMENTS

Position: Temporary Full-Time

Typical Hours: Approximately 8:30 AM - 6:30 PM

Candidates must:

• Be available to work weekends and holidays
• Be flexible to work varying days and hours
• Successfully obtain the required facility clearance and approval
• Be comfortable working in a structured correctional setting

Previous food service or kitchen experience is preferred, but not required. Don't let lack of experience keep you from applying - Tigg's Canteen Services is willing to train the right person!
