Pay Range: $24.00 - $27.00/hour
Position Purpose
The City of Arvada operates restaurants at two golf course facilities within the City. The cooks at these locations prepare already planned menus, recipes and meals for daily operations and special events. Candidate must have transportation and be able to work varied shifts (both nights, weekends, and holidays)
The Lead Cook prepares already planned menus, recipes and meals for daily operations and special events and supervises other kitchen staff.
Essential Job Functions
Supervises the preparation, presentation and cooking of food; meets on a daily basis with the Chef; schedules cooks duties in the kitchen for restaurant, banquets and special functions in conjunction with Chef; orders products needed to fulfill banquet needs during the absence of Chef, takes inventory on a monthly basis; plans work and coordinates kitchen activities to meet meal requirements; Supervises, instructs, guides and gives on the job training to kitchen staff; Responsible for receiving and proper storage of incoming stock and supplies; keeps overall kitchen clean and organized ie. Walk-ins, freezer, dry storage; during the absence of the Chef, it is the responsibility of the Restaurant Lead Cook to assume control of the kitchen including attending meetings, ordering products needed; check changes, scheduling, leave detailed information on problems, food or equipment.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities
Ability to prepare and cook food according to health department and the Division of Food Services' standards; ability to follow health and safety standards and procedures. Knowledge of kitchen equipment and basic food preparation. Ability to use good judgment. Ability to work independently. Ability to maintain clean and neat appearance. Ability to maintain adequate attendance. Ability to follow instructions. Must possess general cooking knowledge.
Must have basic knowledge of kitchen equipment, i.e. steamers, oven, slicers, knives, etc. Ability to effectively communicate information, both verbally and in writing, to support organizational objectives and interact with all levels of personnel within the city in a positive and cooperative manner. Must have a minimum 2 to 3 years of cooking and supervisory experience.

Two (2) - Three (3) years of experience in a kitchen, usually as a line cook, demonstrating proficiency in cooking techniques and food preparation.
Work Experience Preferred
Previous experience in a related field a plus.
Other Qualifications
Must be at least 18 years of age.
Physical Demands
Strenuous to extreme physical effort that includes frequent use of heavy objects (e.g., 50+ pounds) and may also use heavy tools or require strenuous application in awkward positions
Hazards
Marginal to moderate exposure to conditions that are unpredictable and may lead to injury
Work Environment
Regular exposure to heat and noise along with working outside in the elements.

The City of Arvada does not offer benefits to temporary and/or seasonal employees. Temporary, Variable Hour and Health Plan Eligible employees will earn 1 hour of sick leave for every 30 hours worked, up to a maximum cap of 48 hours.
