Lead Cooling Tower Cleaning Technician / Supervisor (Commercial)

The Lead Cooling Tower Cleaning Technician / Supervisor is responsible for leading and executing commercial cooling tower cleaning projects while ensuring work is completed safely, compliantly, on schedule, and to company standards. This role requires extensive hands-on experience with commercial and industrial cooling towers, strong knowledge of Legionella prevention practices, and the ability to supervise field crews, interface with clients, and oversee regulatory compliance. The Lead Technician serves as the on-site authority for safety, quality control, and documentation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and perform cleaning, disinfection, and inspection of commercial cooling towers, including basins, fill, drift eliminators, sumps, strainers, and associated components
  • Execute startup, shutdown, emergency, and corrective cleanings
  • Verify proper isolation, lockout/tagout, and system protection prior to cleaning
  • Ensure cleaning and disinfection procedures comply with CDC, ASHRAE, NYS/NJ DOH, and local regulations
  • Supervise, train, and direct technicians on job sites. Ensure safety protocols
  • Conduct job hazard analyses (JHAs) and pre-job safety briefings
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA standards, including confined space entry, fall protection, and chemical handling
  • Oversee adherence to Legionella management plans and site-specific safety requirements
  • Ensure accurate completion of service reports, inspection checklists, and photographic documentation meeting regulatory and client standards

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum 2+ years of hands-on experience cleaning commercial cooling towers
  • Prior experience leading or supervising field crews
  • Strong working knowledge of:
    • Commercial and industrial cooling tower systems
    • Legionella control, prevention, and remediation practices
    • Chemical cleaning, disinfection, and safety protocols
  • Ability to work at heights, in confined spaces, and in outdoor/industrial environments
  • Clean background check. No criminal history or drivers license issues.
  • Support emergency response and after-hours work as needed

Preferred / Certifications

  • NY or NJ Commercial Pesticide Applicator License
  • OSHA 30 certification
  • Confined Space Entry certification
  • Fall Protection certification
  • Healthcare or hospital cooling tower experience
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) a plus
  • PPE Mask Medical clearance approved
