Salary: S2; 5-9; $21.70 per hour

Hours: Regular full-time position, 8 hours/day; Monday-Friday; 12 months

Primary Job Function:

The Uinta County School District# 1 Lead Custodian supports the school by providing leadership and direction and has an essential role in planning for and maintaining the building, grounds, and physical plant, and supporting a learning environment that promotes the health, attitude, and pride of students working to support the success of students academically, socially, behaviorally, and emotionally.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Two (2) years of experience in custodial work preferred

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

The primary functions may include the following duties, responsibilities, skills, abilities, and other characteristics. This list of tasks is ILLUSTRATIVE ONLY and is not intended to be a comprehensive listing of tasks performed by all positions within this classification.

Leadership

  • Responsible for providing direction, feedback, and guidance that will enable crews to perform their job requirements.
  • Responsible for assigning work to various team members
  • Responsible for inspecting completed work and providing support when needed
  • Responsible for providing training and guidance as necessary
  • Provide input to the building administrator on overall performance and reliability
  • Responsible for the bookkeeping of the custodial budget. This includes but is not limited to:
  • Ordering supplies
  • Tracking all purchased products
  • Record keeping that allows for projection of what supplies will be needed and when
  • Responsible for ordering and maintaining all equipment
  • Responsible for staying up-to-date on all product pricing to ensure the district is making the best use of its dollars
  • Serve as a key liaison between building administrators, the Facilities and Maintenance Department, staff, and community

Cleaning and Maintenance

  • Responsible for keeping buildings clean and orderly. This includes but is not limited to:
  • Picking up and collecting trash
  • Sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, dusting, disinfecting, scrubbing tables
  • Cleaning restrooms
  • Maintenance and care for building plants
  • Sweep the entries and sidewalks
  • Change the message on the marquee
  • Keeping cleaning closets stocked and cleaning solution bottles refilled
  • Responsible for assisting with traffic flow and seeing that orange cones are appropriately placed each day
  • Responsible for daily maintenance of the cafeteria. This includes but is not limited to:
  • Cleaning of tables
  • Sweep and scrub floors
  • Removal of trash
  • Setup and take down of all tables and chairs
  • Responsible for assisting Cafeteria staff in any way needed
  • Responsible for seasonal deep cleaning (summers, holiday breaks)

Safety and Security

  • Responsible for maintaining building safety and security. This includes but is not limited to:
  • Check all doors and windows are closed and locked when the building is not in use
  • Working knowledge of all chemicals used in the building, their proper storage, and handling
  • Check all fire extinguishers for compliance
  • Stay acutely aware of any safety concerns within the building or on the grounds
  • Keep a schedule of regular monthly preventative maintenance
  • Keep the custodial team aware of all emergency shut-off valves and emergency phone numbers
  • Participate in crisis management meetings and emergency drills
  • Responsible for keeping building staff appraised of crisis management updates
  • Responsible for keeping all PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) up to date
  • Responsible for all snow and ice removal to keep building grounds safe
  • Responsible for checking all roof drains for ice build-up

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Knowledge of hand, power, and diagnostic tools and equipment
  • Knowledge of applicable laws, rules, codes, and guidelines pertaining to custodial operations
  • Knowledge of all safety precautions applicable to trade
  • Knowledge of preventive maintenance practices
  • Knowledge of the application, use, and proper storage of chemicals used in the performance of the job
  • Knowledge of hazardous waste disposal
  • Skilled active listener
  • Skilled at asking questions and understanding multiple points of view
  • Skilled communicator who can convey information clearly and effectively, orally and written
  • Ability to analyze ideas and use logic to determine their strengths and weaknesses

Physical Demands & Working Conditions:

  • Physical Demands - While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to communicate with others. The employee is required to sit or stand and move around for extended periods of time. While performing the duties of this job, the employee must be able to push, pull, lift, and carry over 75 pounds on occasion.
  • Working Conditions - The employee in this position may experience occasional exposure to blood, bodily fluids, and tissue. The employee may also be required to interact with unruly children.
  • Driving Requirement - This position may require driving.
