Latham Centers is seeking a dedicated and proactive Direct Support Lead to support children with complex special needs in our residential program. This position combines direct care responsibilities with leadership duties, helping ensure students experience a structured, engaging, and supportive environment where they can thrive.
Location: Brewster, MA 02631 Pay: Starting at $21.97 per hour, based on experience Schedule: Full-Time and Part-Time opportunities available
Position Summary
The Direct Support Lead serves as a role model within the residential program by helping coordinate daily routines, supporting student goals, and promoting a positive living environment. This role works closely with supervisors, clinicians, and direct care staff to provide consistent support while encouraging student growth and independence.
Essential Responsibilities - Coordinate and facilitate daily routines, recreational opportunities, and skill-building activities
- Assist in planning and organizing weekly and monthly programming for assigned students
- Support students with personal care, hygiene, household responsibilities, and community participation
- Implement individualized support plans and behavioral strategies
- Maintain accurate documentation, including daily notes and progress updates
- Contribute information for educational and treatment planning meetings
- Foster positive relationships with students through coaching, mentorship, and encouragement
- Communicate important student information to team members and supervisors
- Assist with crisis intervention and safety procedures utilizing approved training methods
- Participate in required meetings, trainings, and professional development opportunities
- Help maintain a safe, clean, and welcoming residential environment
Qualifications - High School Diploma or GED required
- Valid driver's license preferred
- Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team
- Ability to manage multiple responsibilities in a dynamic environment
- Commitment to supporting individuals with developmental, behavioral, and educational needs
Preferred Experience
- One year or more of experience in direct care, human services, education, healthcare, or a related field
- Experience working with children, adolescents, or individuals with special needs
- Familiarity with behavioral support practices and crisis management techniques
Physical Requirements - Ability to actively engage in residential programming and community outings
- Ability to safely perform approved physical interventions when necessary to ensure safety
- Ability to lift, bend, stand, and move throughout the workday
