Position Summary

The Lead Director, Construction Program Management is responsible for leading the development, execution, and continuous improvement of construction-related programs across retail and enterprise business units. This role ensures successful delivery of new initiatives-from concept through deployment-while optimizing existing programs for performance, efficiency, and return on investment.

Partnering closely with cross-functional leaders across Front Store, Pharmacy, MinuteClinic, Supply Chain, Merchandising, Operations, Real Estate, and IT, this leader drives program excellence, accelerates time-to-market, and ensures alignment with strategic business objectives.

Reporting to the Executive Director, Capital Project Planning, this role oversees program budgets, governance, and execution standards while leading a high-performing team of program management professionals.

Program Leadership & Execution (50%)

  • Lead end-to-end construction program management for new business initiatives across the retail portfolio
  • Guide programs from concept, scoping, and testing through full-scale deployment
  • Ensure alignment with program management best practices to drive quality, speed, and ROI

Operational Excellence & Process Improvement (20%)

  • Identify and implement process improvements to enhance execution, reduce costs, and accelerate timelines
  • Drive consistency, scalability, and efficiency across all construction programs

Stakeholder & Relationship Management (20%)

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for internal stakeholders and external partners
  • Build strong cross-functional relationships to ensure alignment on scope, budget, and timelines
  • Communicate program status, risks, and outcomes to senior leadership

Team Leadership & Development (10%)

  • Lead and develop a team of Senior Program Managers, Program Managers, and support staff
  • Build organizational capability through coaching, mentorship, and stretch assignments
  • Foster a high-performance, collaborative, and accountable team culture

Required Experience

  • 15+ years of construction program or project management experience, preferably in a retail environment
  • 10+ years of leadership experience managing high-performing teams
  • Strong experience managing large-scale budgets and capital programs
  • Proven ability to drive cross-functional alignment and influence senior stakeholders

Technical & Professional Skills

  • Expertise in construction program lifecycle management, budgeting, scheduling, and compliance
  • Strong business acumen with a focus on cost optimization and ROI
  • Excellent communication and executive presentation skills

Technical Proficiency

  • Advanced skills in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Outlook)
  • Experience with project and program management tools (e.g., MS Project)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with organizational design and change management
  • Familiarity with enterprise systems such as Tririga, Ariba, and MS Project Server
  • Demonstrated ability to lead in complex, matrixed organizations

Education

  • Bachelor's degree in Architecture, Engineering, Construction Management, Business, or related field (or equivalent experience)
  • Master's degree preferred

  • Travel: 5-10%

Pay Range

The typical pay range for this role is:

$100,000.00 - $231,540.00

This pay range represents the base hourly rate or base annual full-time salary for all positions in the job grade within which this position falls. The actual base salary offer will depend on a variety of factors including experience, education, geography and other relevant factors. This position is eligible for a CVS Health bonus, commission or short-term incentive program in addition to the base pay range listed above. This position also includes an award target in the company's equity award program.
