This role serves as a Lead Electrical Designer and Lead Electrical Engineering Technician within the Advanced Power Generation (APG) sector, working as part of the Virtual Design & Data Solutions team. You will collaborate closely with multidisciplinary project teams to design and deliver complex power generation facilities and critical infrastructure. The position focuses on developing high‑quality 2D and 3D electrical design deliverables, including duct bank, cable tray, grounding, and lighting systems, using industry‑standard digital design tools. You will operate with minimal supervision, provide technical leadership, and ensure that designs meet technical quality, schedule, and budget expectations while supporting the development of innovative engineering solutions.

Responsibilities

  • Function in a lead technician, technical design specialist, and/or supervisory role for electrical design on advanced power generation projects.
  • Apply advanced technical expertise in electrical engineering principles and practices to solve complex design challenges within the power generation discipline.
  • Develop, create, and modify high‑quality 2D and 3D electrical design drawings and models for power generation facilities, including duct bank design, cable tray design, grounding systems, and lighting systems.
  • Utilize digital design tools and software such as CAD, BIM, 3D modeling platforms, and Bentley MicroStation, following standardized procedures to produce accurate technical documentation and project deliverables.
  • Support the development of innovative engineering solutions by contributing to the overall design approach and integrating best practices for advanced power generation infrastructure.
  • Ensure technical quality of all assigned design work, verifying that drawings and models comply with project standards, codes, and engineering requirements.
  • Monitor and maintain adherence to project schedules and budgets, proactively addressing issues that could impact timelines or costs.
  • Coordinate design efforts across departments, teams, and stakeholders to ensure alignment of electrical design with other disciplines and overall project objectives.
  • Provide guidance, direction, and oversight to engineering technicians and support staff, coordinating both conceptual and detailed design activities.
  • Review and refine design outputs from team members to ensure consistency, accuracy, and efficiency in deliverables.
  • Use lighting design tools, such as AGI32 (when applicable), to support accurate modeling and illumination calculations across APG facilities.
  • Document design decisions and maintain organized records of design changes, ensuring traceability throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary project teams within the power providers market sector to integrate electrical systems effectively into broader project designs.
  • Support continuous improvement of digital design processes and standards within the Virtual Design & Data Solutions team.

Essential Skills

  • Associate Degree in Drafting or an Engineering Design Related Technology.
  • Typically a minimum of 15 years of related work experience in electrical design or a closely related field.
  • Power generation design industry experience, with a focus on advanced power generation facilities.
  • Advanced knowledge of electrical engineering principles and practices as applied to power generation projects.
  • Proficiency in Bentley MicroStation for creating and modifying electrical design drawings and models.
  • Experience with 3D modeling of equipment and electrical systems for power generation facilities.
  • Experience in duct bank design, including routing and layout for power distribution.
  • Experience in cable tray design, including configuration, routing, and coordination with other disciplines.
  • Experience in grounding system design for power generation plants and related infrastructure.
  • Experience in lighting design for industrial or power generation environments.
  • Advanced knowledge of project budgets and schedules, including the ability to plan, track, and maintain compliance with project constraints.
  • Ability to work under minimal supervision while delivering high‑quality technical outputs.
  • Strong coordination skills to work effectively with multidisciplinary teams and stakeholders.
  • Proficiency with digital design tools and software such as CAD, BIM, and 3D modeling platforms, following standardized design procedures.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in an Engineering Design Related Technology is preferred.
  • Experience with AGI32 or similar lighting design software is preferred to support accurate lighting modeling and illumination calculations.
  • Experience working within a Virtual Design & Data Solutions or similar digital design environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to act in a lead technician or supervisory capacity, providing direction and oversight to engineering technicians and support staff.
