TYPE: Full time, regular
COMPENSATION: $150,000 - $200,000/yr
Clarapath is a medical robotics company based in Westchester County, NY, dedicated to transforming and modernizing laboratory workflows. Our mission is to improve patient care by increasing efficiency, reducing costs, and enhancing the quality and consistency of laboratory processes.
Our portfolio includes SectionStar and TrimStar Pro, innovative electro-mechanical systems designed to automate and elevate critical steps in the histology workflow. SectionStar delivers high-quality, consistent tissue sections, while TrimStar Pro streamlines and standardizes the trimming process - together enabling laboratories to operate with greater precision, throughput, and reliability.
At Clarapath, we bring together experts across engineering, data science, robotics, healthcare innovation, and laboratory operations. Our R&D team drives innovation, product enhancements, and a strong pipeline of new solutions, while our manufacturing team oversees production and quality control at our ISO-certified facility. Also based in our New York headquarters are our sales, marketing, administrative, and service teams, who work closely together to ensure every customer receives a seamless, personalized experience at every touchpoint.
Role Summary:
The Lead Electrical Engineer will play a critical role in the architecture, development, and leadership of electrical systems for Clarapath’s advanced SectionStar and TrimStar Pro platforms. This individual will own end-to-end electrical design efforts, while guiding technical direction for PCB design, embedded hardware integration, power and control architecture, and system-level electrical performance. Working closely with mechanical, firmware, manufacturing, and customer-facing teams, this role will ensure robust design implementation from concept through production and field deployment. The Lead Electrical Engineer will also drive design reviews, support troubleshooting of system-level issues, and translate field performance feedback into meaningful design improvements that enhance reliability, serviceability, and product performance. We are seeking a hands-on technical leader who thrives in fast-paced environments, brings strong system-level thinking, and is eager to mentor others while solving complex engineering challenges in real-world medical device applications.
Responsibilities:
- Lead the architecture, design, and development of electrical systems for SectionStar and TrimStar Pro medical devices
- Own PCB design and review, including schematic capture, component selection, layout oversight, and design for manufacturability (DFM)
- Design power distribution systems, motor control systems, and low-noise analog/digital signal paths
- Develop wiring diagrams, cable assemblies, and system-level electrical documentation
- Drive embedded hardware integration and interface with firmware/software teams for system requirements and debugging
- Lead electrical system integration across mechanical, software, and manufacturing teams
- Guide prototypes through testing, verification, validation, and production release
- Troubleshoot and resolve system-level electrical issues during development and in the field
- Establish and improve electrical engineering design standards, processes, and best practices
- Mentor junior engineers and provide technical leadership across projects
- Support supplier selection, vendor engagement, and external design reviews
- Ensure compliance with applicable safety, EMC, and medical device regulatory standards
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related field (Master’s preferred)
- 8+ years of experience in electrical engineering (medical devices, robotics, or complex electro-mechanical systems preferred)
- Strong expertise in analog and digital circuit design
- Extensive experience with PCB design tools and electrical CAD systems
- Deep understanding of embedded hardware systems (MCUs, sensors, motors, power electronics)
- Experience designing power systems and control architectures for complex devices
- Strong hands-on debugging skills using lab equipment (oscilloscopes, analyzers, etc.)
- Ability to read, create, and review schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical documentation
- Experience working in regulated product development environments (FDA/ISO preferred)
- Familiarity with IEC/UL safety and EMC compliance standards (preferred)
- Strong communication skills and ability to lead cross-functional collaboration
- Experience taking products from R&D through manufacturing scale-up
Company Offers:
- Competitive salary, commensurate with experience and education
- Comprehensive benefits package available: (healthcare, vision, dental and life insurances; 401k; PTO and holidays)
- A collaborative and diverse work environment where our teams thrive on solving complex challenges
- A mission driven organization where every team member will be responsible for changing the standards of delivering healthcare
