The OpportunityThis opportunity with Black & Veatch offers the chance to collaborate with multidisciplinary project teams within the Power Providers Market Sector, supporting Nuclear projects and building critical infrastructure for today's and tomorrow's challenges. Electrical professionals contribute to power systems design, including duct bank design, cable tray design, grounding, lighting, and other electrical systems supporting Nuclear facilities.The Virtual Design & Data Solutions (VDDS) Staff Engineering Technician plays a key role in supporting the development of high‑quality engineering 2D/3D deliverables for these complex infrastructure projects. Under minimal supervision, this position performs technical tasks requiring advanced knowledge of electrical engineering principles and practices, with a focus on creating and modifying electrical design drawings using advanced techniques in industry‑standard design tools, such as Bentley MicroStation and other Bentley tools. Advanced knowledge of project budgets and schedules is required. Smart Plant Electrical knowledge is a plus.For lighting design, experience with AGI32 is preferred to support accurate modeling and illumination calculations across Nuclear facilities.As this position supports the global nuclear program at Black & Veatch, any potential offer will be conditional on the individual being able to satisfy all requirements, including citizenship requirements, outlined in the Code of Federal Regulations 10 CFR 810.The TeamBlack & Veatch Operations develops, deploys, and maintains global resources and capabilities that guide execution and process excellence across the organization.Key ResponsibilitiesFunctions in a lead technician, technical design specialist, and/or supervisory roleApplies advanced technical expertise to solve complex design challenges within a specific engineering discipline and contributes to the development of innovative engineering solutionsUtilizes digital design tools and software (e.g., CAD, BIM, 3D modeling) following standardized procedures to create, modify, and maintain technical documentation, drawings, and project deliverablesResponsible for technical quality, schedule adherence, and budget compliance, while effectively coordinating efforts across departments, teams, and stakeholdersMay supervise engineering technicians and support staff by coordinating, overseeing, and guiding conceptual and detailed design activities to ensure quality, efficiency, and alignment with project objectivesEstablishes, communicates, and enforces design and graphic standardsReviews project requirements to determine correct formats and deliverable contentPromotes quality across projects, groups, and sectionsReviews design inputs to ensure consistency and complianceEnsures that design deliverables are prepared, coordinated among disciplines and issued in accordance with BV Quality Assurance Procedures and project specific proceduresImproves integration, coordination, and communication across disciplinesContributes to continuous improvement of design guides, standards, and processesLeads or participates in process improvement and change management initiativesApplies sound engineering fundamentals and established design practices in developing deliverablesExercises judgment, makes work-related decisions, and guides other professionalsCoordinates deliverable presentations, delegates production design, or other electronic applicationsMonitors production to assure consistency, budget and schedule of deliverablesEstablishes drawing control methods and maintains historical recordsPrograms control systems or participate in other plant start-up activities associated with a specialized expertise areaLeads or supports development of new or updated design applications and processesCoordinates with other design group personnel to review and exchange project information necessary for design developmentMay support field activitiesMay manage multiple discipline areas or groupsCommunicates project design requirements, progress, and schedulesResponsible for determining identification of key client interests and drivers on projects.
