Position Information

Keeping Systems Running, One Connection at a Time

The Department of Facility Maintenance (DFM), Public Building and Electrical Maintenance Division, is seeking a Lead Electrician-Electronic Equipment Repairer in Honolulu.

What You Will Do

Under the general supervision of the Electrician-Electronic Equipment Repair Supervisor:

  • Supervise and participate in the installation, maintenance and repair of a wide variety of electrical systems, wiring systems, equipment and appurtenances for all facilities under the jurisdiction of DFM.
  • Ensure subordinates and self adhere to applicable safety practices, rules, and procedures, and performs all duties in a safe and acceptable manner to ensure the safety of self, co-workers, and the general public.
  • Work schedule is Monday to Friday from 6:50 a.m. to 3:20 p.m.
  • Will be assigned to service locations that will be subject to applicable state and federal laws in order to access the facilities.
  • Performs other related duties as required.

Special Work Requirements

  • May be called out to work while on off-duty status to respond to electrical emergencies.
  • Employee shall provide valid after hours contact number.
  • Basic computer skills required.
  • Be able to work at various heights, from an electric lift, scaffolds, and/or aerial trucks.
  • May be exposed to some working conditions that require the use of a respirator.
  • This position will be assigned to service the Joint Traffic Management Center (JTMC) and the USN Whitmore Naval Station and is subject to applicable state and federal laws in order to access the facilities.
  • JTMC: Any employee with unescorted access to secured areas and equipment related to a traffic management center requires a fingerprint-based criminal history record check as part of the pre-employment suitability in accordance with HRS §846-2.7 (b)(37).
  • USN Whitmore Naval Station: Access requires a federal background check as mandated by the U.S. Navy.

Minimum Qualification Requirements

Experience and/or training of sufficient scope and quality to show demonstrated competence in performing the journey level skills and duties of this position.

Applicable Skills Needed

Knowledge of:

  • principles and theories of electricity and electronics and experience in installing, maintaining, testing and repairing electrical/electronic equipment, systems, apparatus, and instruments
  • practices, tools, equipment and materials used in the electrical and electronic trades
  • laws, rules and standards pertaining to electrical/electronic construction and maintenance
  • testing equipment and testing procedures to maintain and repair electronic components
  • hazards involved in working around energized lines and equipment and experience applying safety practices of the trades

Ability to:

  • interpret blueprints, plans, diagrams and schematics of electrical and electronic circuits for electrical wiring installations and modifications to electrical and electronic circuits

LICENSE/CERTIFICATE REQUIREMENT:

At the time of application:

  • Possession of a journey level electricians license and one (1) year of work experience as a licensed electrician performing work comparable to an Electrician in the City service; OR
  • A valid supervising electrician license.

Access to the USN Whitmore Naval Station requires a federal background check. Therefore, the selectee will be required to be fingerprinted as part of their employment suitability review. The Department of Human Resources will review fingerprint-based state and national criminal history record information from the Hawaii Criminal Justice Data Center and the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

LICENSE & EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT

The position of Lead Electrician-Electronic Equipment Repairer requires applicants to have possession of a journey-level electricians license AND one year of work experience as a licensed electrician performing duties comparable to those of an Electrician in City service OR a valid supervising electrician license.
