Job Description

Position Summary:

The Engineering Lead is a licensed civil Professional Engineer (PE) who leads the day-to-day engineering effort across MAG Aerospace's U.S. Government defense programs, and serves as the civil engineer of record for government facilities, including secure and sensitive facilities. The role plans and directs the work of the multidisciplinary engineering team, integrates the civil, structural, mechanical, electrical, and security disciplines into a coherent design, and carries projects from requirements and basis of design through sealed, construction-ready drawings and construction completion. Reporting to program leadership, it applies across a portfolio of programs rather than any single effort.

The position combines hands-on civil and structural design with design and construction delivery: site development, foundations, pads, and structural modification of existing facilities; design review and drawing and specification packages; and construction administration through inspection, quality assurance, and closeout. The role also supports mobile platform programs where facility, siting, and structural interfaces apply.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Lead the day-to-day engineering effort across the portfolio: plan and assign work, set technical schedules, review engineering products, and maintain design quality across the multidisciplinary team.
  • Serve as the civil engineer of record: specify, design, and seal civil and structural drawings for government facilities, including secure and sensitive facilities.
  • Design and oversee site and structural work, including site development, grading and drainage, utilities, foundations and equipment pads, shelter and enclosure siting, and structural modification and reinforcement of existing facilities.
  • Integrate the civil, structural, mechanical, electrical, and security disciplines into a coordinated design, and resolve interdiscipline conflicts before they reach construction.
  • Direct design development and design reviews at each stage, produce and control drawing and specification packages and basis-of-design documentation, and perform constructability review.
  • Manage construction administration: submittal and request-for-information review, site inspection, quality assurance, deficiency tracking, and project closeout.
  • Conduct site surveys and facility condition assessments, and evaluate existing structures, utilities, and site conditions for modification, upgrade, and new installation.
  • Apply the applicable building codes, Unified Facilities Criteria (UFC), and Government design and construction quality management processes, and coordinate with the authority having jurisdiction and, for overseas work, host-nation requirements.
  • Provide technical direction and mentoring to engineers, designers, and drafters.
  • Support estimating and technical scope development for new and follow-on work.
  •
Requirements:

REQUIRED / MINIMUM SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE

  • Active civil Professional Engineer (PE) license, with the ability to seal and stamp construction drawings.
  • U.S. Army Corps of Engineers experience, or comparable federal design and construction delivery experience, including Government design review, submittal, and construction quality management processes.
  • Civil and structural design for facilities, including site development, grading and drainage, utilities, foundations and equipment pads, and structural modification of existing buildings.
  • Demonstrated experience producing and sealing stamped construction drawings and specification packages, and interfacing with the authority having jurisdiction.
  • Construction administration experience, including submittal and request-for-information review, site inspection, quality assurance, and closeout.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead a multidisciplinary engineering team and coordinate civil, structural, mechanical, electrical, and security design into an integrated package.
  • Department of Defense project experience and working command of Unified Facilities Criteria (UFC) and the applicable building codes.
  • Proficiency in civil and structural design and drawing production (AutoCAD, Civil 3D, Revit, or equivalent).

ADDITIONAL PREFERRED SKILLS

  • Prior U.S. military service, or direct experience supporting U.S. military operations.
  • An active or current Top Secret/SCI (TS/SCI) clearance.
  • ICD 705 and secure-facility accreditation experience, including construction and inspection requirements.
  • OCONUS construction experience, including host-nation standards and overseas project delivery.
  • PE licensure in multiple states, or an NCEES record for expedited comity licensure.
  • Design-build delivery experience, construction quality management certification, or Project Management Professional (PMP) certification.

EDUCATION

Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from an ABET-accredited program, as required for Professional Engineer licensure. Master's degree is a plus.

MINIMUM YEARS OF EXPERIENCE

A minimum of 10 years of civil engineering design and construction experience, including lead design responsibility and experience directing the work of other engineers. U.S. Army Corps of Engineers or comparable federal design and construction experience is strongly desired, as is secure-facility, ICD 705, and OCONUS project experience.

CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES, AND CLEARANCE

An active civil Professional Engineer (PE) license, with the ability to seal drawings, is required.

Must hold, or be able to obtain and maintain, a U.S. Department of Defense Top Secret security clearance with Sensitive Compartmented Information access (TS/SCI). U.S. citizenship is required.

This position involves access to technical data controlled under U.S. export control regulations, including the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) and the Export Administration Regulations (EAR).

TRAVEL

Up to 25 percent, including OCONUS site surveys, design reviews, and construction support at Government sites.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS

Work is performed in office, laboratory, high-bay, facility, active construction, and field environments. Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds, access construction sites and equipment areas, and work in and around vehicles and secure facilities.
