Lead Engineering TechnicianLocation: San DiegoFull Time: Non ExemptHourly Pay: $33–$40Position SummaryWe are seeking a highly capable, detail‑oriented, and versatile Engineering Technician to support the development, integration, testing, and operation of complex electromechanical systems.The ideal candidate is equally comfortable working with sophisticated mechanical assemblies and advanced electrical systems, enjoys hands‑on technical problem solving, and thrives in a fast‑paced, innovative engineering and R&D environment where priorities can evolve quickly. You will work closely with talented engineers and cross‑functional teams to build, troubleshoot, optimize, and improve cutting‑edge prototype and production systems.This is a highly collaborative and impactful role requiring strong technical judgment, adaptability, exceptional attention to detail, and the ability to independently drive complex technical issues through resolution.ResponsibilitiesAssemble, integrate, test, troubleshoot, and maintain advanced electromechanical systems, prototypes, and laboratory equipmentSupport the development and scaling of innovative instrumentation, automation, and hardware systemsRead and interpret detailed mechanical drawings, electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical documentationPerform precision mechanical assembly, fabrication, modification, and system integration workBuild and wire sophisticated electrical systems including sensors, motors, actuators, control panels, harnesses, and instrumentationDiagnose and resolve complex mechanical, electrical, and system‑level issues during development and testingSupport engineering experiments, validation activities, and data collection efforts with accuracy and efficiencyCollaborate closely with multidisciplinary engineering and cross‑functional teams to improve system reliability, manufacturability, and performanceAssist with equipment installation, calibration, maintenance, and commissioning activitiesDevelop and improve assembly procedures, technical documentation, and lab/shop organizationHelp establish scalable best practices for prototype builds and engineering operationsMaintain a safe, organized, and high‑functioning laboratory and workshop environmentEffectively manage shifting priorities and contribute to multiple concurrent projects in a dynamic environmentQualificationsA BS/BA with 5 years or Associate Degree with 8 years of experience or a technical certification, or equivalent practical experience in Engineering Technology, Mechatronics, Electronics, Mechanical Technology, or a related technical field5+ years of relevant hands‑on technical experience in engineering, manufacturing, laboratory, or R&D environmentStrong electromechanical troubleshooting and diagnostic capabilitiesExperience with mechanical assembly and electrical wiring/integrationAbility to read and work from engineering drawings, schematics, and technical documentationProficiency with hand tools, power tools, multimeters, and standard lab/shop equipmentStrong organizational skills, attention to detail, and problem‑solving abilitiesAbility to work both independently and collaboratively in a fast‑moving, team‑oriented environmentPreferredExperience supporting R&D hardware development and rapid prototype iterationExperience with precision soldering, cable fabrication, and connector assemblyExperience with sensors, pneumatics, pumps, valves, and instrumentation systemsFamiliarity with automation systems, robotics, motion systems, or fluidic systemsBasic machining, fabrication, or CAD (SolidWorks) experienceExperience in biotech, life sciences, medical device, or other highly technical, regulated industriesWe are an equal opportunity employer.
