Position Summary

The City of Dania Beach is committed to employing a talented and diverse workforce. We are currently seeking qualified candidates to perform journeyman level manual work of ordinary difficulty and responsibility in the maintenance and repair of municipal facilities, buildings, structures, equipment and accessories. According to work assignments, employees in this classification apply trades skills in rough and finished carpentry, painting, masonry, roofing, electricity maintenance, HVAC, plumbing and fabrication. Work assignments may be wholly in one line of craft and at one location but generally involve a variety of skills and are performed in many different locations. The incumbent in this classification will operate as a functional lead worker, providing general supervision of work assigned within the functional area and under the supervision of the Facilities Foreman. Duties & Responsibilities

  • Assist Facilities Foreman with work assignments (including managing the work order system), contractor work coordination, interacting with "customers" who submit work orders, and other similar duties to assist the Foreman.
  • Maintain supplies and tools inventories and assist Foreman & Division Manager with determining budgetary needs in this area, including required tools and equipment, during the annual budget process.
  • Assist with obtaining quotes for goods and services required by the Division.
  • Acts as primary contact for any building issues (i.e. climate control, odors, smoke, spills, damage, emergencies and repairs).
  • Performs journeyman level work in application of various trades occupations, e.g., carpentry, painting, masonry, roofing, HVAC, electrical, plumbing, fabrication.
  • Performs various building/facilities security and maintenance tasks, e.g., doors, locks, window, awnings, screens, glass, mirrors.
  • Performs various building/facilities replacement and installation, e.g., electrical switches and outlets, plumbing fixtures and drainage systems, ceiling and roof tiles.
  • Applies trades skills to new construction projects, e.g., tile installation, drywall hanging/finishing, painting walls and fixtures.
  • Maintains various records regarding assigned tasks, e.g., work orders, time sheets, materials required/used, purchase requisitions.
  • Works independently or as part of a team project effort, depending on area of assignment.
  • Ensures adherence to safety and accident prevention standards and regulatory guidelines.
  • Performs maintenance of air conditioning systems (including installation of a/c wall units), refrigeration equipment and ice makers.
  • Functions in a lead capacity as needed in coordinating efficient and timely completion of work orders and project assignments.
  • Performs metal fabrication tasks, e.g., welding, brazing, cutting.
  • Responds to emergency call-ins for hurricanes or other critical events.
  • Performs immediate cleaning duties necessary to maintain clean facilities.
  • Coordinates and assists with departmental and employee moves.
  • Cross-trains to provide support in other areas of Public Service as needed.
  • Performs related duties as directed when such duties are a logical and appropriate assignment to the position.

Qualifications

Whats required: (Minimum Requirements)

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Three (3) years of previous vocational training, or full-time work experience in the construction or trades fields.
  • Possession of a valid Florida driver's license with an overall good driving record is required. If driver's license is out of state, must be able to obtain a Florida driver's license within thirty (30) days of the hire date.

Whats preferred: (Desired Requirements)

  • Five (5) years of previous vocational training or work experience in the construction or trades fields.
  • Possess a CDL class B with an overall good driving record.
  • One (1) year of supervisory experience or in a lead role.
  • Possession of work-related certifications and/or licenses.
