    Performs and oversees a full range of laboratory tests which range from moderately simple to highly complex testing according to Standard Operating Procedures. Confirms accuracy of tests results and reports laboratory findings to the Pathologists and other Clinicians

    Job Description:

    Essential Responsibilities:

    • Serves as a resource for the Flow Cytometry Lab and provides technical support to staff. Assists in researching new tests, performs instrument evaluations, writes standard operating procedures, and maintains supplies. Resolves technical problems and troubleshoots when test systems are not within established levels of performance.
    • Oversees periodic review of quality control and instrumentation logs to ensure accuracy of test results. Provides input into technical decisions, acts as an expert for data collection and gathers monthly QC statistics. Functions as the technical on-call person for the off-hours.
    • Demonstrates excellent skills at managing and directing workflow. Monitors the daily operations and delegation of duties within the lab. Reallocates resources as needed.
    • Trains Medical Technologists and Flow Cytometry Technologists. Participates in the development of training and competency procedures. Instructs residents and fellows.
    • Serves as liaisons between Lab Support Services and technical departments and provides timely communications and resolution of problems to clients outside the labs.
    • Provides leadership in the absence of Clinical Managers and Supervisors. Represents the lab on committees. Provides input to managers and supervisors for performance evaluations. Addresses personnel issues with the Clinical Manager.

    Required Qualifications:

    Required Education: Bachelor’s degree in Medical Laboratory Science / Medical Technology or Biological Science required.

    Required Work Experience: 3 years’ full time experience required for exceptional internal candidates, 5 or more years’ experience highly preferred and required by external applicants. Experience must include at least one year of flow cytometry experience.

    License/Registration/Certification: ASCP certified generalist or categorical Technologist or equivalent accreditation required.

    Other:

    1. Demonstrates autonomy, capability and capacity to lead multiple projects and assist with staffing needs under the direction of department leadership.

    2. Must possess the analytical abilities necessary to perform high, moderate, and waived complexity test procedures with a high degree of accuracy and an understanding of their relevance to specific patient conditions. Must be able to achieve expected turn around time for reporting patient test results and manage the psychological stress encountered in meeting these requirements.

    3. Judgment decisions are required especially during technically difficult and emergency situations. Must realize the importance

    and consequences of reported laboratory data and resulting interventions.

    4. To accommodate the need of the lab, must demonstrate flexibility with regard to work assignments, workflow, and schedule.

    5. Experience with computer systems required, including web based applications and some Microsoft Office applications which may include Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint or Access.

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • Leadership experience.
    • 3-5 years of Supervisory/Management experience.

    Written Communications: Ability to summarize and communicate in English moderately complex information in varied written formats to internal and external customers.

    Oral Communications: Ability to comprehend and communicate complex verbal information in English to medical center staff, patients, families and external customers.

    Knowledge: Ability to demonstrate in-depth knowledge of concepts, practices and policies with the ability to use them in complex varied situations.

    Team Work: Ability to act as a team leader for small projects or work groups, creating a collaborative and respectful team environment and improving workflows. Results may impact the operations of one or more departments.

    Customer Service: Ability to provide a high level of customer service and staff training to meet customer service standards and expectations for the assigned unit(s). Resolves service issues in the assigned unit(s) in a timely and respectful manner.

    Physical Nature of the Job:

    Light work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force frequently to move objects. Some elements of the job are sedentary, but the employee will be required to stand for periods of time or move throughout the hospital campus

     

     

    Pay Range:

    $48.30 - $65.01

    The pay range listed for this position is the base hourly wage range the organization reasonably and in good faith expects to pay for this position at this time. Actual compensation is determined based on several factors, that may include seniority, education, training, relevant experience, relevant certifications, geography of work location, job responsibilities, or other applicable factors permissible by law.  Compensation may exceed the base hourly rate depending on shift differentials, call pay, premium pay, overtime pay, and other additional pay practices, as applicable to the position and in accordance with the law.
