Great Pay | Strong Base + Performance Upside | Take-Home Truck | Excellent Benefits | High-Quality Installations
Yellow Dog Plumbing, Heating & Cooling is a growing residential HVAC and plumbing company based in Needham, MA. We’re looking for an experienced Lead HVAC Installation Technician who takes tremendous pride in their work, can lead an installation from start to finish, and wants to build a career with a company where quality matters.
If you're an experienced HVAC installer who wants great compensation, stability, a strong team, and the opportunity to take ownership of your jobs and help shape a growing company, we want to talk to you.
Great Pay + Stability – We offer a highly competitive base rate, so you're taken care of even when business slows down, along with significant performance-based upside and incentives.
Quality Comes First – We don't believe in rushing installations just to get to the next job. We want our lead installers to have the time, equipment, materials, and support necessary to do exceptional work and do it right the first time.
Take-Home Truck – Newer, well-equipped company trucks that qualified technicians can take home, plus a gas card, uniforms, pant allowance, and boot allowance.
Excellent Benefits – Health, dental and vision insurance, 401(k) with up to a 4% company match, paid time off, tools, and more.
A Real Career Path – We're growing, and that creates opportunities. Lead installers interested in becoming installation managers, field supervisors, trainers, or taking on other leadership roles will have opportunities to advance as the company grows.
Your Voice Matters – You'll have direct access to company leadership, including the owner/CEO. We want experienced people who will help us improve our installations, processes, training, and company—not simply follow instructions.
Great Service Area – Our primary markets include Needham, Newton, Wellesley, Brookline, Weston, and surrounding communities.
We're looking for an experienced Lead HVAC Installer who:
Has 5+ years of residential HVAC installation experience
Can confidently lead an installation from start to finish
Takes tremendous pride in clean, professional, high-quality workmanship
Has strong knowledge of furnaces, air conditioning systems, heat pumps, air handlers, coils, mini-splits, and related HVAC equipment
Understands proper refrigerant piping, evacuation, charging, condensate drainage, venting, gas piping, electrical connections, controls, and system commissioning
Can identify installation issues before they become problems
Can read equipment specifications and follow manufacturer installation requirements
Can lead and mentor apprentices and junior installers
Communicates professionally with homeowners and keeps them informed throughout the installation
Keeps jobs organized, clean, and moving efficiently
Has EPA 608 certification
Has a valid driver's license and clean driving record
Wants to continue learning and improving
Experience with heat pumps, mini-splits, high-efficiency furnaces, boilers, and modern HVAC controls is especially valuable.
If you have experience doing both HVAC installation and service, we especially want to hear from you.
Master HVAC Technicians will receive special consideration and may have additional opportunities available.
As a Lead HVAC Installation Technician, you'll take ownership of residential HVAC installations from the time you arrive at the customer's home through final startup and commissioning.
You'll lead your installation team, review the scope of work, organize the job, communicate with the homeowner, and make sure the installation is completed safely, efficiently, cleanly, and to Yellow Dog's quality standards.
Your responsibilities will include:
Leading residential HVAC replacement and installation projects
Installing furnaces, air handlers, heat pumps, A/C systems, coils, mini-splits, and related equipment
Directing and mentoring apprentices and other installation team members
Reviewing job scopes and identifying potential issues before beginning work
Ensuring installations meet manufacturer requirements, applicable codes, and Yellow Dog standards
Properly evacuating, charging, testing, and commissioning systems
Testing system operation before leaving the job
Ensuring condensate drainage, airflow, refrigerant piping, electrical connections, controls, venting, and other installation details are completed correctly
Communicating professionally with homeowners throughout the project
Keeping the customer's home and work area clean and protected
Completing job documentation and communicating any issues or recommendations to the office
Taking responsibility for the overall quality of the finished installation
The lead installer owns the job. We want someone who looks at the finished installation and takes personal pride in knowing it was done right.
This isn't simply an installer position.
Our Lead HVAC Installation Technicians are expected to set the standard for the people working alongside them.
That means teaching apprentices, helping other technicians improve, maintaining a positive attitude on the job, solving problems instead of passing them along, and holding yourself and your team accountable for the quality of the finished product.
You don't need to know everything. But you do need to care about getting better and helping the people around you get better too.
Take care of our employees and customers.
Their needs come first.
Excellence in every detail.
How we do the little things is how we do the big things. Installation quality matters.
Every voice matters.
Employees and customers deserve to be heard and respected.
Be a little better every day.
Learn from mistakes, improve, and keep moving forward.
Grow with a purpose.
We believe profitable, sustainable growth creates opportunities for everyone on our team.
We're building a company where talented tradespeople can do work they're proud of, earn great money, enjoy the people they work with, and have a meaningful impact on the company.
We're not looking for someone who simply wants to get equipment running and move on to the next job.
We're looking for a Lead HVAC Installer who cares about craftsmanship, takes ownership of their installations, leads by example, and wants to build something with us.
If that's you, we'd like to meet you.
Apply today and let's talk.
