FDE Requirements:
- EBSCO Enterprise AI Forward-Deployed Engineer engagement with ClientThe engagement model We are not buying finished products or embedded seats.
- We want accelerated build-up of EBSCO owned capability, with the vendor as the accelerant. At the end of an engagement, an EBSCO owner can operate, modify, and extend what was built - without calling Client.
- Every role below is defined to that standard. Each engagement will be time-boxed (typically 4-6 weeks of build), runs against a named EBSCO owner embedded from day one, and closes with a measured capability hand-off plus a reusable pattern other teams can reuse.
Key Principles for FDE engagement
- Embedded from day one. A named EBSCO owner is in the build from day one; the engineer builds and teaches simultaneously.
- Everything lands in EBSCO-controlled repos, in real time. Code, prompts, agent/skill definitions, configs, evals, and architecture notes are committed to EBSCO repos throughout - not delivered as a final package.
- No dependency on the vendor's platform. No perpetual license or vendor-hosted runtime required to run what was built. If it only runs inside the vendor's stack, it isn't a capability we own.
- Knowledge transfer is co-design, not a demo. Structured co-design reviews at defined checkpoints, plus a written decision log capturing why it was built the way it was.
- Capability transfer is measured, and it gates the engagement. 'The EBSCO owner can run and extend this independently' is defined up front and is an acceptance gate on the engagement.
Summary of the requirement
- Number of resources: Two (2) - one per role below, each paired with a named EBSCO owner based on the project.
- Strong Eastern/Central Time overlap is required for daily embedded co-build (EBSCO hubs - Ipswich, MA & Birmingham, AL).
- Engagement shape: Time-boxed engagements (typ. 4-6 weeks build + hand-off overlap), 2-3 projects running concurrently.
- Seniority: Mid-to-senior applied engineers who can build production-quality work and teach it to an owner in parallel.
- Role 1 - Forward-Deployed AI Engineer, Agentic Automation Mission Embed inside EBSCO operational and product teams and ship agentic / LLM-powered automation for real, sponsored workflows, leaving behind a working solution in EBSCO repos and an owner who can extend it.
Representative work at EBSCO
- Sales RFP tooling - faster, grounded AI answers to security/AI questionnaires than the current manual flow.
- Agentic enhancement-request (ER) triage - categorizing and routing the inbound customer enhancement queue.
- Customer-service AI - consolidating and extending RAG chat / 'chat with an expert' into a governed, reusable pattern.
What you'll do
- Co-design and build agentic solutions (tool-use, orchestration, retrieval) against a named business problem and owner.
- Stand up prompt/eval pipelines so quality is measured, not asserted; iterate against real data.
- Commit all artifacts - agent/skill definitions, prompts, evals, configs, decision logs to EBSCO repos as you go.
- Run co-design checkpoints with the EBSCO owner and hand off against a defined 'can operate and extend independently' bar.
Required skills
- Strong Python and modern LLM application development (agent frameworks, tool-use/function calling, RAG).
- Prompt engineering and evaluation building eval harnesses, measuring accuracy/regression, iterating.
- Cloud (AWS preferred), Git-based workflows, CI/CD, and API integration.
- Ability to work embedded with product/ops owners and transfer reasoning with strong communication and teaching.
Preferred
- Experience with agent orchestration and MCP / tool-integration patterns; familiarity with Claude / Claude Code.
