About the role
Join a power generation team in Pittsburg, CA as a Level III IC&E professional for a 2–3 month assignment with the possibility to extend. You’ll serve as the go-to technical resource for instrumentation, controls, and electrical systems that keep the plant running safely and reliably.
A day in the life
Your day starts on the deck, walking down critical equipment and reviewing overnight logs. When a turbine control alarm pops, you dive into the DCS to diagnose, plan a corrective action, and document findings. You’ll coordinate with operations, mentor junior techs on safe work practices, and close out your shift with clear reports and updated CMMS records.
What you’ll handle
- Electrical systems maintenance and troubleshooting for:
- Generators, transformers, and switchgear
- Motor Control Centers (MCCs) and associated equipment
- Upkeep and support of plant instrumentation and controls: valves, transmitters, and field devices
- Monitoring, diagnosis, and optimization of Distributed Control Systems (DCS) and gas/steam turbine control systems
- Advanced diagnostics and root-cause analysis for electrical and control failures
- Preventive and corrective maintenance aligned with OEM guidance and site procedures
- Full lifecycle work management in CMMS (e.g., Maximo, SAP): work orders, tracking, and documentation
- Enhancing preventive maintenance tasks and system reliability programs
- Reading and applying electrical drawings, P&IDs, and technical documentation
- Maintaining precise records, logs, and technical reports on system performance and issues
- Acting as a technical lead and mentor for junior technicians
- Ensuring strict adherence to safety, environmental, and regulatory standards
What you bring
- High School Diploma or technical/vocational degree (or equivalent experience)
- 5+ years of IC&E experience in a power plant or heavy industrial setting
- Proven electrical troubleshooting expertise (required)
- Hands-on background with:
- DCS (monitoring, troubleshooting, and configuration/programming)
- Gas or steam turbine control systems
- Switchgear, generators, transformers, and protective relays
- Familiarity with CMMS platforms such as Maximo and SAP
- Solid grounding in electrical theory, instrumentation, and control systems
- Ability to interpret electrical schematics and P&IDs
- Valid driver’s license
