Job Description

Position Overview

E-Logic is seeking a highly skilled Lead IT Field Engineer to oversee the hardware decommissioning, transit validation, re-racking, and stability monitoring for a high-security USDA Data Center relocation project. This critical role requires travel to origin and destination data centers to maintain the physical and technical chain of custody for 136 core IT assets under strict government deadlines and security requirements.

Equipment Scope

  • Total inventory: 136 rack-mounted enterprise assets
  • 71 standard 1U/2U servers/switches
  • 65 heavy 4U storage arrays/SANs
  • Must be comfortable physically handling high-density hardware ranging from 30 lbs to 150+ lbs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Origin Supervision (Kansas City, MO): Audit all 136 IT assets prior to packing; log serial numbers and verify hardware states before teardown.
  • Destination Re-Cabling & Validation (Denver, CO & Chicago, IL): Oversee subcontractor "rack and stack" activities. Perform all technical cable patching, port mapping validation, and network connectivity verification.
  • System Burn-In Monitoring: Manage the mandatory 48-72 hour post-move hardware stability burn-in period. Monitor system error logs and power metrics to ensure 100% operational uptime before client handoff.
  • Emergency Standby: Remain available to extend monitoring up to 96+ hours if transit shock or environmental sensors indicate any transport exceptions.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Clearance: Must be able to pass a federal HSPD-12 / T4 Public Trust background check immediately. Current active clearance or prior federal agency access is a strong plus.
  • Technical Experience: 4+ years working in enterprise data centers. Deep knowledge of server rack architecture, network cabling topology, port mapping, and hardware diagnostics.
  • Travel: Full flexibility to travel between Missouri, Colorado, and Illinois based on truck transit schedules (all travel expenses covered/reimbursed).

Duration: 5-8 week window (estimated 11-17 active operational days)
