Lead Land Technician

Location: San Francisco, CA

Onsite Flexibility: Hybrid home office with reporting to Concord, CA on occasion, with possible field support

  • Pay Rate: $42.00 $55.00 / Hour (USD)
  • Shift / Schedule: Monday Friday, 8 hours/day; regular start time must be 8:30 AM or earlier
  • Travel Requirements: Mileage reimbursement available (with prior client approval) for locations other than Concord, CA headquarters
  • Work Authorization: Applicants must be authorized to work for ANY employer in the U.S. We are unable to sponsor or take over sponsorship of an employment Visa at this time.

Job Summary

Under the supervision of an exempt supervisor or the direction of a higher land classification within the Land Technician line of progression or Land Surveyor's line of progression, the Lead Land Technician is responsible for performing routine and lead-level survey, mapping, and land rights-of-way work in support of gas and electric transmission infrastructure. This is a hybrid role the candidate will work from their home office but report into Concord, CA on occasion, with possible field support. Local candidates in the CA Bay Area are required, with preference for candidates closer to Concord, CA.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform routine work as a member of a survey party; make precise survey measurements using conventional and state-of-the-art surveying instruments; interpret legal descriptions of real property; make and interpret survey calculations; research, analyze, check, and adjust survey data; research title and compile evidence and documentation for boundary determination. May be required to operate the survey vehicle.
  • Prepare maps from field notes, office data, and title searches for condemnation proceedings, obtaining rights-of-way, purchasing land, obtaining government permits, and obtaining leases and other land documents. Plot plan profiles, road cross-sections, topography, contours, and special drawings. May be required to check mathematical computations of others.
  • Assemble information for, and process, clear, and correct rights-of-way and land matters. This work includes such duties as preparing legal descriptions of real property; preparing all documents necessary for the acquisition and disposition of fee property and easements, including complicated and non-standard documents under the guidance of a Senior or Principal Land Agent; processing necessary forms for the procuring of permits; preparing and processing quitclaims; securing signatures; securing permits; inspecting property; preliminarily investigating encroachments; and preparing clear and concise reports and correspondence.
  • Act as the lead person in performing the field work necessary to procure data for the preparation of right-of-way papers, permits, leases, and other land documents as required for distribution facilities. This work includes such duties as coordinating the work of survey parties, conducting field survey work by running a survey party, operating survey equipment, taking field notes, and directing the work of other members of the survey party.
  • May perform the work of lower classifications.

Required Skills

  • Professional experience using AutoCAD Civil 3D for land surveying or civil engineering purposes
  • Demonstrated ability to direct the activities of a survey crew
  • Physical ability to perform field survey work
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to perform the full qualifications of a Land Technician, with demonstrated ability to perform Lead Land Technician duties as evidenced by quality and quantity of work product
  • Must pass an agreed-upon written examination testing ability to perform the duties of a Senior Land Technician as assigned

Education Requirements

  • Land Surveyor In Training (LSIT) certificate required

Required Experience

  • Professional experience using AutoCAD Civil 3D for land surveying or civil engineering purposes
  • Experience performing field survey work, including running a survey party, operating survey equipment, and taking field notes
  • Background in land surveying, civil engineering, GIS/Geography, mathematics, geomatics engineering, or a related field relevant experience may come from government surveying/mapping departments, survey companies, or city/county agencies

Work Environment / Physical Requirements

  • Physical ability to perform field survey work is required
  • Role is primarily home office (hybrid), with reporting to Concord, CA on occasion and possible field support
  • Client laptop will be provided; docking station may potentially be provided by the client if unavailable, supplier/contractor must provide; monitors and peripherals must be provided by the contractor/supplier
  • PPE will be provided by the client
  • Mileage reimbursement (with prior client approval) available for travel to locations other than Concord, CA headquarters
