    Description

    POSITION TITLE: Lead Laundry Worker

    EXEMPTION STATUS: Non-exempt

    REPORTS TO: Custodial Supervisor

    TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: 12 months

    Primary Purpose

    Supervise the district laundry operations. Establish and follow routine laundry procedures to maintain a high standard of safety, cleanliness, and efficiency in the laundry department. Operate laundering machines to clean articles such as rags, wiping cloths, filter cloths, bags, sacks, work clothes, athletic uniforms, and athletic shoes.

    Qualifications

    Education/Certification

    High school diploma or GED, preferred

    Valid Texas driver's license

    Special Knowledge/Skills

    Ability to follow verbal and written instructions

    Ability to communicate effectively

    Ability to work independently

    Ability to operate laundry equipment and lift heavy equipment

    Experience

    Three months related experience and/or training with clear driving record

    Major Responsibilities and Duties

    Laundry and Personnel Management

    • Implement and maintain established laundry schedule that will include laundry from all campuses including athletic and custodial laundry.
    • Maintain an inventory of laundry supplies and equipment and order additional supplies as needed.
    • Direct and monitor the work of laundry personnel assigned to your department and resolve employee issues or refer to supervisor.
    • Report staff time and ensure laundry workers follow timekeeping procedures.

    Laundry and Cleaning

    • Pick up and deliver articles for laundering
    • Load articles into washer and add specified amount of detergent; fill washer with water and start machine that automatically washes and rinses articles; lift clean, wet articles from washer and place into wringers and driers for measured time cycles.
    • Sort dried articles according to identification numbers or type and fold and place items in appropriate storage bins.
    • Sort and count articles to verify quantities on laundry lists.
    • Soak contaminated articles in neutralizer solution in vat to precondition articles for washing; mix bleach according to formula for bleach specified articles.
    • Clean and repair desks and other furniture as assigned.

    Security and Safety

    • Check daily to ensure that all exit doors are open and all panic bolts are working properly during occupancy hours.
    • Inspect machines and equipment for safety and efficiency.
    • Lubricate machines.
    • Operate tools and equipment according to established safety procedures.
    • Follow established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties.
    • Correct unsafe conditions in work area and report any conditions that are not correctable to supervisor immediately.

    • Tools/Equipment Used: Industrial washing machines and dryers; district vehicle
    • Posture: Continual standing, walking; frequent kneeling/squatting, bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, twisting, climbing
    • Motion: Frequent repetitive hand motions, wrist flexion/extension
    • Lifting: Lifting and carrying up to 30 pounds without assistance, 30-55 pounds with assistance, and more than 55 pounds with appropriate assistance
    • Environment: Work indoors and outdoors, on slippery or uneven walking surfaces and ladders; exposure to extreme hot and cold temperatures, dust, toxic chemicals and materials
    • Mental Demands: Maintain emotional control under stress, work with frequent interruptions
