Job Duties

• Set up, program, and prove out first-run CNC jobs.
• Optimize machining programs to improve efficiency and reduce cycle times.
• Support production machinists with tooling, materials, and technical guidance.
• Train and mentor machinists as needed.
• Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and specifications.
• Select tooling, fixtures, and machine setups for successful production runs.
• Monitor machine performance and make adjustments to maintain quality standards.
• Inspect finished parts using precision measuring tools, including calipers and micrometers.
• Perform routine machine maintenance and safety inspections.
• Ensure compliance with quality management and workplace safety requirements.

Education Requirements

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Technical school, machining certificate, or CNC programming education preferred.

Experience Requirements

• Minimum 5 years of CNC machining experience.
• Strong experience with CNC lathes, VTLs, mills, drills, and related equipment.
• Ability to read blueprints and use precision measuring instruments.
• Solid mathematical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.

Physical Capabilities

This position is based in a manufacturing environment with exposure to moving machinery and varying conditions. Candidates must be able to stand, walk, bend, reach, and frequently lift up to 25 lbs. Close attention to detail, visual acuity, and a strong commitment to safety are essential.

What You Will Do

As a Lead Machinist you will set up, operate, monitor, and adjust CNC machining equipment to manufacture precision components according to engineering specifications. You will verify machine setups, inspect finished parts using precision measuring instruments, troubleshoot machining issues, maintain tooling, and support quality and production goals while following established safety and manufacturing procedures.

A Lead Machinist produces precision parts through the operation of advanced CNC machining equipment. This role requires technical knowledge, strong problem-solving skills, and the ability to maintain accuracy throughout every stage of the machining process.

The Lead Machinist combines blueprint interpretation, machine setup, tooling knowledge, and precision inspection techniques to manufacture quality components. Successful candidates understand the importance of consistency, safety, and attention to detail.
