It requires a leader that can staff, develop, and drive a team of both engineers and designers to accomplish program work. This individual will also apply mechanical engineering principles to design and maintain L3Harris FOS product lines during new product design, development, and sustain production across a multidisciplinary team. The role supports production of existing products, working with manufacturing and quality to troubleshoot issues, document changes, and adhere to AS9100 and ISO9001 quality standards.Essential FunctionsLead, mentor, and develop a team of engineers and designersSupport hiring, workforce planning, and performance managementFoster a collaborative, accountable, and continuous improvement cultureProvide inputs (material and labor estimates, technical content) for Requests for Proposals (RFPs)Define, maintain, and improve the department's development processes and best practicesServe as lead mechanical engineer, responsible for design integrity and product performance and complianceDrive mechanical design decisions across new product development and legacy product supportDevelop and refine mechanical designs in accordance with internal standards and customer specificationsApply GD&T, tolerance analysis, and sound engineering principles to ensure manufacturability and performancePerform engineering calculations and collaborate with analysts to validate designs (FEA, thermal, shock/vibration)Define and execute design verification strategies (shock, vibration, thermal, acceleration, etc.)Prepare and present materials for internal and customer design reviewsEnsure compliance with applicable industry, customer, and regulatory standardsSupport production by troubleshooting issues, implementing design updates, and improving processesPartner with manufacturing and quality teams to resolve nonconformances and drive corrective actionsRequirementsMust be able to obtain and maintain a security clearance which requires U.S. citizenship.Bachelor's Degree and minimum 9 years of prior relevant experience; Graduate Degree and a minimum of 7 years of prior related experience; or in lieu of a degree, minimum of 13 years of prior related experience.Professional experience using CAD software such as Solid Edge, SolidWorks, NX, etc.Professional experience with GD&T application and interpretation according to ASME Y14.5 and ASME Y14.100.Professional experience with dimensional stack-up and tolerance analysis.Preferred Additional SkillsStrong fundamentals in mechanics, vibration, fatigue, and thermal concepts.Experience with DFMA and manufacturing processes.Familiarity with AS9100 / ISO 9001 quality systems and working in a regulated environment.Experience with FEA tools and test validation methods.Advanced degree (MS) in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering.An active DOW Secret Security Clearance.Equal Opportunity Employer StatementL3Harris Technologies is proud to be an Equal Opportunity Employer.
