It requires a leader that can staff, develop, and drive a team of both engineers and designers to accomplish program work. This individual will also apply mechanical engineering principles to design and maintain L3Harris FOS product lines during new product design, development, and sustain production across a multidisciplinary team. This individual must be able to work within established design guidelines to ensure products meet or exceed customer and industry specifications. In addition, this role supports production of existing products, working with manufacturing and quality to troubleshoot issues, document changes, and adhere to AS9100 and ISO9001 quality standards.Essential FunctionsLead, mentor, and develop a team of engineers and designersSupport hiring, workforce planning, and performance managementFoster a collaborative, accountable, and continuous improvement cultureProvide inputs (material and labor estimates, technical content) for Requests for Proposals (RFPs)Define, maintain, and improve the department's development processes and best practicesServe as lead mechanical engineer, responsible for design integrity and product performance and complianceDrive mechanical design decisions across new product development and legacy product supportDevelop and refine mechanical designs in accordance with internal standards and customer specificationsApply GD&T, tolerance analysis, and sound engineering principles to ensure manufacturability and performancePerform engineering calculations and collaborate with analysts to validate designs (FEA, thermal, shock/vibration)Define and execute design verification strategies (shock, vibration, thermal, acceleration, etc.)Prepare and present materials for internal and customer design reviewsEnsure compliance with applicable industry, customer, and regulatory standardsSupport production by troubleshooting issues, implementing design updates, and improving processesPartner with manufacturing and quality teams to resolve nonconformances and drive corrective actionsMust be able to obtain and maintain a Security Clearance which requires you to be a U.S. CitizenQualificationsBachelor's Degree and minimum 9 years of prior relevant experience. Graduate Degree and a minimum of 7 years of prior related experience.
