The Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, a nationally recognized academic medical center, is seeking a Lead Medical Laboratory Scientist to join our Central Receiving and Reference Laboratory Team. As a critical leader within the laboratory, you will play an essential role in ensuring the accurate and efficient processing of incoming patient specimens and the coordination of complex send-out testing. Summary:
The Lead Medical Laboratory Scientist serves as a key resource for laboratory staff and leadership, assisting with the oversight of daily operations, quality assurance, regulatory compliance, and staff development. This individual acts as a technical expert, problem solver, and operational leader while helping ensure exceptional service and laboratory performance.
Responsibilities:
• Lead daily operations in a fast-paced, high-volume laboratory environment.
• Oversee the Send-Out Reference Laboratory and Central Receiving operations.
• Partner with laboratory leadership to drive quality, compliance, and operational excellence.
• Mentor and train laboratory professionals to support workforce development and growth.
• Contribute to process improvement and performance initiatives that directly impact patient care.
• Support laboratory leadership in the oversight and coordination of daily operations.
• Assist with staff scheduling to ensure appropriate coverage across all shifts, weekends, and holidays.
• Promote a culture of teamwork, accountability, and service excellence.
