Overview

Perimeter Behavioral Health of the Ozarks in Springdale, Arkansas is seeking a Lead Mental Health Technician Coordinator (MHTC) to provide leadership and oversight of our Mental Health Technician team. This leadership position combines direct patient care with operational management responsibilities to ensure a safe, therapeutic, and recovery-focused environment for our residents and staff.

The MHT Coordinator serves as a role model for the Mental Health Technician team by leading daily operations, coordinating staffing, recruiting and developing team members, and promoting a culture of compassion, accountability, and excellence. This individual works collaboratively with nursing and clinical leadership to ensure quality patient care, regulatory compliance, and positive treatment outcomes.

Responsibilities

  • Lead, supervise, and support the daily operations of the Mental Health Technician (MHT) team.
  • Recruit, interview, hire, onboard, and retain qualified Mental Health Technicians in collaboration with leadership and Human Resources.
  • Train, coach, mentor, and develop MHT staff through orientation, competency validation, ongoing education, and performance feedback.
  • Create and maintain staffing schedules to ensure appropriate coverage based on patient census and acuity.
  • Monitor attendance, coordinate shift coverage, and assist with staffing needs to ensure safe operations.
  • Foster a positive team culture that emphasizes professionalism, accountability, teamwork, and exceptional patient care.
  • Create and maintain a safe, therapeutic, and trauma-informed environment for residents, visitors, and staff.
  • Model therapeutic communication, professional behavior, and crisis intervention techniques while supporting staff during behavioral emergencies.
  • Ensure Mental Health Technicians provide quality patient supervision, documentation, safety checks, and implementation of individualized treatment plans.
  • Participate in patient care activities including behavioral observations, therapeutic programming, de-escalation, and physical intervention when necessary (training provided).
  • Collaborate with nursing, clinical, and administrative leadership to support quality improvement initiatives and regulatory compliance.
  • Monitor unit operations and ensure adherence to hospital policies, Joint Commission standards, and state and federal regulations.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Psychology, Human Services, Nursing, Social Work, Criminal Justice, or a related field preferred.
  • Minimum of two years of behavioral health, psychiatric, healthcare, or human services experience required.
  • Previous experience as a Mental Health Technician required.
  • Prior leadership, charge, supervisory, or team lead experience preferred.
  • Current CPR certification or ability to obtain upon hire.
  • Ability to complete Handle with Care Verbal and Physical deescalation interventions training and appiactions
  • Strong leadership, communication, conflict resolution, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work a rotating 12-hour schedule, including days, nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Physical capability to bend, stoop, lift, and safely assist during patient interventions.
