UPMC is hiring a Lead Ophthalmology Coordinator to support the Vision Institute-Tarentum, located at 303 E. 10th Ave., Tarentum, PA 15084. This full-time position works Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and requires travel to St. Margaret, Monroeville, Wexford, Mercy, Oakland, and Shadyside locations as needed. The Lead Ophthalmology Coordinator is responsible for supervising and monitoring clinic staff while coordinating daily clinic operations to ensure efficient patient care and workflow. Key responsibilities include delegating and overseeing patient care activities, triage management, in-basket support, scrubbing future schedules, maintaining injection logs and inventory, and supporting all departmental operations. The ideal candidate is a strong leader with excellent organizational and communication skills who can effectively manage priorities in a fast-paced ophthalmology practice while promoting exceptional patient care and team collaboration.
Responsibilities:
- Supervises staff, and clinical functions within your department.
- Participates in committees and work groups to assist practice manager with quality and work performance issues.
- Completes, supervises & delegates all daily clinical and departmental responsibilities such as; patient care for the day, triage, in basket, scrubbing of future schedules, disability forms, injection authorizations, injection logs/inventory, maintain clinic supplies, and all other responsibilities within the department.
- Must be able to troubleshoot and multitask.
- Monitors & maintains workflow for the department/service/satellite you are assigned. Tracks patients through the exam process. Recommends & implements changes as necessary to maintain an efficient clinical workflow & assures a positive patient experience.
- Position requires a significant amount of standing.
- Willing to travel to other clinical sites.
- Reviews clinic schedule in advance, in coordination with the practice manager and/or provider, adjusting schedule as needed to prevent any potential issues within the department.
- Ensures harmonious workflow of patients and ensures adherence to policies and procedures; recommends and/or implements changes as necessary to maintain efficient clinic, patient access, and desired patient experience.
- Assigns Tech start times, end times and lunches based on clinical needs for the day.
- Proactively accommodates for staffing and flow, to prevent potential bottlenecks within the clinic.
- Responsible for training/staff development such as training or delegating training of technical staff to ensure a multifunctional staff (i.e cross-training, continuing education. Assists with onboarding and training of new hires.
- Minimum 5 years ophthalmic experience
- 3+ years supervisory/coordinating experience.
Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
JCAHPO certified (any level/min COA within one year of hire or placement.
