PAY TRANSPARENCY STATEMENT:
In accordance with The Massachusetts Pay Transparency Act, BNHC provides reasonable pay range for each posted position. Actual compensation will be based on multiple factors such as relevant experience, education and training to determine offered rates. This range represents the organizations good faith estimate of the possible compensation at the time of posting.
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Lead Optician supervises optical services at Brockton Neighborhood Health Center working with the Director of the Eye Services. The Lead Optician oversees all aspects of this service with approval of the Director where required.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Manage and operate the optical services at BNHC, including eyeglass fitting, selling, dispensing, and adjusting.
• Maintain accurate frame, lens, and optical supplies inventory and financial records. • Take a formal inventory at least twice per year. • Collect and maintain accurate patient financial, insurance, and demographic information related to the provision of optical goods, using Epic and Flexsys software systems. • Collaborate with the health centers billing and fiscal offices to assure the flow of information needed for third-party billing for eyeglasses. • Manage all Optical Services personnel in collaboration with the Director of Eye Services, including performance evaluations, orientation, disciplinary action, and hiring. Provides direction to staff to ensure policies and procedures are followed. Keeps optical staff informed of health center issues and events. • Act as a Mentor to staff Optician Apprentice(s) in collaboration with Director of Eye Services and Staff Optometrists, coordinating MA State required activities and oversee on-the-job apprentice training.

WORKING CONDITIONS:
The Lead Optician supervises the optical shop in a busy community health center in an urban neighborhood. Quantity of optical orders is considered high volume, many walk-in patients. Follows all BNHC protocols and regulations. Provides a friendly and professional environment within Optical.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
The individual must be in good health of mind and body with the physical dexterity and vision suitable to accomplish the job duties outlined above. Knowledge of proper patient transfer assistance is also required, and the ability to lift as much as 50 pounds may be necessary.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Optician Licensed in Massachusetts. At least 5 years of experience as an optician is preferred.
