Department Overview

The Sexual Violence Advocacy and Support Center (SVASC) at Bridgewater State University is dedicated to reducing incidents of sexual assault and relationship violence on campus and within the community. The SVAS Center, in compliance with best practices and recommendations of Massachusetts Department of Higher Education and the CDC, uses innovative approaches to educate and create awareness around topics of sexual assault, harassment, dating and domestic violence, and stalking. To better serve, support, and ensure the safety of our BSU family, the center promotes the ideals of respect, community, responsibility, and nonviolence.

Position Information

The SVAS Center is seeking assistance in increasing its visibility on campus and providing the campus community with violence prevention education.

The SVASC Lead Outreach Educator and Events Coordinator will help to increase awareness about sexual assault, domestic and dating violence, harassment and stalking prevention. This will be done through various approaches such as implementing awareness events and annual campaigns, coordinating resource tables, and working with campus groups to book and deliver SVASC's high quality prevention trainings. Additional integral duties include providing advocacy to survivors seeking support and resources from the SVAS Center.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaboratively train, support, and mentor newer peer educators or interns
  • Facilitate workshops and tabling events on consent, healthy relationships, bystander intervention, and related topics
  • Lead the planning and execution of key awareness events (e.g., Sexual Assault Awareness Month, Domestic Violence Awareness Month, Take Back the Night)
  • Identify emerging needs and opportunities for outreach and programming
  • Recommend new events or engagement strategies to enhance the center's presence
  • Track attendance and participant feedback to assess event effectiveness
  • Represent the center at campus events, orientation sessions, and student forums
  • Offer non-clinical, trauma-informed peer support and resource referrals
  • Create affirming, inclusive spaces for survivors, allies, and those seeking education and support

Eligibility requirements:

Must be a Bridgewater State University undergraduate student registered for a minimum of six credits for the Fall 2026 semester.

Preferred Qualifications

Requirements

  • Candidates must have excellent communication, writing, and organizational skills
  • The ability to be a supportive and flexible team member
  • Candidates must be dependable and punctual
  • Candidates must possess a strong passion for violence prevention work.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Social Work, Sociology, Psychology, Criminal Justice or Communications majors
  • Previous experience with leading, mentoring or training others

Physical Demands

Must be able to lift, carry, push, and pull up to 20 pounds.
