The UNM Medical Group, Inc is seeking an Full-time LeadPatient Services Coordinator to work in our Cancer Center Scheduling Area.

Minimum $38,263 - Midpoint $47,818*

*Salary is determined based on years of total relevant experience.

*Salary is based on 1.0 FTE (full time equivalent) or 40 hours per week. Less than 40 hours/week will be prorated and adjusted to the appropriate FTE.

This position is responsible for handling all the scheduling needs for Cancer Center patients to include processing observation orders to include lab and diagnostics, arriving patients and queuing clinical staff to begin triage.

This position is critical to the overall success of the department by meeting established job requirements and performance goals in a very demanding and high producing clinic environment all while addressing and meetings the needs of the patients and/or physician’s.

Summary

Under direct supervision, provides support on daily work to the Patient Service Coordinators (PSCs) in an assigned ambulatory clinic. Performs a broad range of administrative support tasks, including patient financial services such as registration, appointment scheduling, billing, collections, and overseeing patient flow. Addresses concerns and complaints, serving as a liaison between patients, physicians, other providers, and insurance companies as necessary.

Minimum Job Requirements of a Lead Patient Services Coordinator:

High school diploma or GED with at least 2 years of directly related experience acquired working in a medical environment. Completed degrees from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis. Verification of education and licensure (if applicable) will be required if selected for hire.

About UNM Medical Group, Inc Lead Patient Services Coordinator at UNM Cancer Center:

UNM Medical Group (UNMMG) is currently seeking a Lead Ambulatory Patient Service Coordinator for the UNM Cancer Center to work in one of the functional areas within the Patient Services Department. The functional areas are; New Patient Referral Processing, Insurance Verification, Patient Check-In and Registration, Scheduling, Medical Records, Radiation Oncology Frontline and PBX Operators. The position will provide direct services to patients either by phone or in person by processing new patient referrals, verifying insurance coverage and benefits, frontline registrar for Medical or Radiation Oncology, appointment scheduling, medical records or as a PBX Operator. In addition the position serves as a liaison as needed with physicians, other providers and insurance companies.

This position will be located at the University of New Mexico Comprehensive Cancer Center (UNMCCC). The UNM Comprehensive Cancer Center (UNMCCC) is a statewide provider of cancer care and is influential in the cancer field throughout New Mexico and the nation. It is the only academic healthcare facility dedicated to both cancer research and patient care and is also the only Cancer Center in New Mexico designated by the National Cancer Institute (NCI), and one of just sixty-six (66) premier NCI-designated centers nationwide.

Duties and Responsibilities of a Lead Patient Services Coordinator:

  1. Works closely with appropriate clinic leadership to monitor daily front desk operations, including registration, appointment scheduling, prior authorizations, charge ticket reconciliation, daily deposit completion, and monitoring administrative checklists.
  2. Orders office supplies and ensures the front desk is equipped to support clinic operations.
  3. Collaborates with appropriate clinic leadership and administrative offices to resolve issues related to billing, coding, reporting, and other front desk responsibilities.
  4. Supports the Practice Manager by preparing reports, researching data, and making corrections as needed.
  5. Coordinates specialist referrals, laboratory orders, radiology, and other prescribed procedures for patients.
  6. Establishes work priorities and guides workflow at the front desk by participating in the development of PSC schedules and daily assignments, as appropriate.
  7. Participates in the implementation and maintenance of record-keeping systems, updating and organizing data as required.
  8. Assists with purchasing and inventory management and acts as a contact person for operational and administrative issues for internal and external stakeholders.
  9. Trains front desk staff and assists in coordinating and completing special projects as assigned.
  10. Provides administrative reports requiring research, analysis, and correction, manages purchasing and inventory, and acts as a contact person for operational and administrative issues.
  11. May be responsible for patient billing processes, including data entry, record maintenance, and coordination of financial and administrative procedures for the clinic.
