OverviewCentraState Healthcare System, headquartered in Freehold, New Jersey, is a leading non‑profit healthcare delivery system. It includes CentraState Medical Center, an ambulatory campus, two senior living facilities and three community health pavilions, and a charitable foundation. The Lead Plant Operations Engineer performs a variety of maintenance and engineering duties. The engineer works independently within a chosen trade to design, implement, and improve systems in accordance with codes and regulations. The engineer leads a group of Maintenance Mechanics on assigned projects, teaches trade skills to other Mechanics, reviews and approves work of outside vendors, writes specifications for bid work, and participates in quality assurance programs.Full‑time: 36–37.5 hours per week. Typical shift: 7 p.m.–7:30 a.m.; day coverage as needed. Rotated weekends required.ResponsibilitiesPlan layout, fabricate, and recommend material for installations.Recommend alternate methods of installation when appropriate.Ensure correct parts are ordered for assigned work or stock replenishment.Accurately establish and write specifications.Review vendor bids and make appropriate vendor recommendations.Create punch lists for outside vendor projects.Work with vendors to resolve discrepancies of project‑related work.Ensure projects are completed to specifications before approving for payment.Identify and correct complex building system problems.Coordinate work with other employees and various trades to ensure successful completion of job.Conduct scheduled rounds, tests, and inspections as required.Participate in department quality‑control program.Use effective teaching methods to train other members of the department in trade skills.Help other mechanics demonstrate understanding of trade following instruction.Make constructive recommendations for modifying preventive‑maintenance system.Assist in making decisions on routine repairs and report major problems to Director or Manager.Refer problems beyond scope of expertise to Director or Supervisor.Read and interpret blueprints or models accurately.Plan and execute work layout, making routine computations as needed.Construct, finish, install, maintain, and repair equipment, systems, and facilities related to any craft or combination of the same.Maintain accurate and complete logs following departmental guidelines.Respond promptly to all emergency calls and drills, demonstrating knowledge of emergency procedures.Use correct tools and proper safety measures when working with power and hand tools.Perform semi‑skilled and skilled work in various crafts: carpentry, plumbing, electrical, sheet metal, machinist, painting, welding, masonry.Complete work assignments following proper techniques and departmental quality standards.Demonstrate knowledge of plant and specialty equipment such as sterilizers, dietary equipment, sprinkler systems, and ice makers.Perform necessary service and repairs to equipment following manufacturer specifications.Keep all work areas clean and free of safety hazards.Remove snow and ice when required to ensure safety of patients, residents, employees, and visitors.Follow applicable local, state, and federal regulations.QualificationsEducation: High‑school graduate or equivalency required.Work Experience:• 5 years of plant operator experience required.• 5 years of general maintenance experience (HVAC, electrical, plumbing, carpentry) required.• 10 years in a healthcare institution preferred; at least 5 years of maintenance experience must be in the primary trade. Five years at CentraState with two at Senior Mechanic level may substitute for two years of trade experience.
