Position Summary

Ā 

The Lead Preschool Teacher maintains a healthy and engaging classroom environment, plans and implements individualized weekly lesson plans, assesses child growth and development, and supports children’s behavior with evidence-based strategies.

Essential Functions

Ā 

Curriculum and Instruction:

  • Plan and implement learning experiences that advance the intellectual and physical development of children, including literacy, language, early math, and science skills.
  • Use the Head Start Early Learning Outcomes Framework and applicable state early learning standards to guide curriculum development and assessment.
  • Integrate a variety of activities and materials to support children's cognitive, social, emotional, and physical development.

Teacher-Child Interactions:

  • Establish and maintain a nurturing, supportive, and inclusive classroom environment.
  • Foster positive and effective teacher-child interactions to support each child's individual growth and development.
  • Encourage children's exploration, creativity, and problem-solving skills.

Assessment and Documentation:

  • Conduct ongoing assessments of children's development using appropriate assessment tools.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of children's progress and use data to inform instructional practices.
  • Communicate assessment results and developmental milestones with families and other staff members.

Classroom Environment:

  • Ensure a safe, healthy, and well-organized learning environment.
  • Implement health and safety practices in accordance with Head Start regulations and state licensing requirements.
  • Provide materials and activities that reflect the diversity of the children and families served.

Family Engagement:

  • Build positive relationships with families and encourage their involvement in the Head Start program.
  • Provide resources and referrals to support families' needs and goals.

Ā 

Collaboration and Communication:

  • Provide guidance and direction to classroom staff and work collaboratively with other staff members, consultants, and community partners to provide comprehensive services to children and families.
  • Communicate effectively with children, families, and colleagues.

Attend and participate in staff meetings, training sessions, and other program activities as required.
