Summary

The Process Equipment Operator—Lead reports directly to the Operation Supervisor and is responsible for the management and leadership of the Process heavy equipment operations in American Organics. The Lead Process Equipment Operator assists in overseeing the daily operation to ensure the highest standard of safety and operations are followed. The Lead Process Equipment Operator processes green waste and other organic materials using loaders and loader equipment throughout the day to produce high-quality compost and mulch.

Job Description

  • Assist in the daily operations of organics compost facility.
  • Maximize Product demands efficiently, cost effective and safely.
  • Ensure the highest standard of safety and operations are followed.
  • Familiarization of local, state compliance, environmental requirements/regulations regarding the any and all finished product AO produces, such as mulch and compost material.
  • Assist in the assignment of work, assign tasks in order to meet production needs.
  • Makes continuous effort to maximize production and efficiency at the site without compromising the safety of employees, customers, and/or vendors.
  • Oversees the cleanliness of the facility.
  • Help to ensure all staff participate in mandatory safety meetings.
  • Train in the Investigative process of any incidents while learning how to complete and document any work-related injuries, accidents/incidents in a timely manner.
  • Always maintain safe operating conditions of equipment and area
  • Perform and help guide other PEOs with pre/post trip inspection of all equipment operated daily.
  • Work with peers as a team in completing major tasks successfully
  • Assist in material grading, sampling products, and properly process material to create final product.
  • Learn, perform, assist in inventory procedures, and conduct sampling of all material required to pass any PFRP or lab testing procedures.
  • Performs other duties as needed by direct supervision.

Required Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma and/or GED
  • Must be able to read and understand safety rules, operating manuals, and maintenance instructions for equipment
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Exceptional organizational skills, decision-making skills, customer service skills, and effectively interface with the public
  • Ability to perform physical requirements of the position with or without reasonable accommodations
  • Ability to operate heavy equipment such as, but not limited to CAT 966 or higher, 25-35 Ton Rock Truck, Water Truck, SCARAB, multiple size Organics Screens as assigned and industrial grinders.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bilingual – English/Spanish.
  • Class A or B commercial driver’s license
  • Acceptable driving record

Physical/Environmental Demands:

Physical:

  • Standing, walking, sitting, seeing, hearing, touching, stooping, lifting, & smelling continuously.
  • Problem solving, oral/written communication, analytical ability, concentration, & interpersonal abilities continuously.
  • Eye/hand coordination, visual depth perception, handling, & wrist motion continuously.

Environmental:

  • Exposure to dust, smoke, fumes, odors, grease, oil, chemicals, wet/hot conditions, windy conditions & noise continuously.
  • Exposure to flying debris and sharp objects occasionally.
  • Works outside only. 

Pay Range: $25.24–$28.05/hour + $1.00/hour premium

Schedule: Monday - Friday from 4:00 am - 1:30 pm with rotating Saturdays
