The Quality Control Technician Lead is responsible for performing all duties of a Quality Control Technician while providing day-to-day leadership, guidance, and support to Quality Control Technicians. This position serves as the lead technician on shift, ensuring quality testing, sampling, inspections, and documentation are completed accurately and efficiently. The QC Lead works closely with the QC Manager, Production, and Loadout teams to maintain product quality, support continuous improvement efforts, and promote a strong culture of safety and accountability. The QC Lead is a working lead position and is expected to actively participate in all laboratory testing and quality control activities while assisting in coordinating laboratory operations and technician performance.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Performs quality testing of raw and finished sand materials and keeps accurate records of results. Prepares sand samples as needed.
  • Serve as the lead technician and primary point of contact for QC activities during assigned shifts.
  • Provides guidance, training, and support to QC Technicians. Assists with onboarding and training new technicians.
  • Assists the QC Manager in identifying training needs.
  • Coordinates shift handoffs and ensure continuity of laboratory operations.
  • Monitors product quality throughout the production process and communicate concerns to management.
  • Monitors daily laboratory activities to ensure testing schedules and reporting requirements are met while providing direct lab support to the Production Manager.
  • Performs auditing and inspection activities to ensure that quality targets are met for all finished Alpine Silica sand products shipped to customers. Verifies compliance with quality standards.
  • Analyzes, identifies and communicates problematic trends or recurring quality concerns e.g. recurring first pass issues.
  • Performs sieve analysis, moisture testing, turbidity testing and other required quality tests.
  • Promotes and enforce company safety policies and procedures.
  • Ensures testing equipment is properly maintained and calibrated.
  • Promotes consistency in testing methods and documentation practices.
  • Focuses on creating a safety culture that utilizes safe work practices, maintaining a safe and clean work area. May participate in safety meetings, inspections, and incident investigations.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required. Bachelors degree in Quality Management, Manufacturing Management, or similar field of study preferred.
  • 3 years' experience in Quality Control position preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Strong physical and mental health to maintain demanding, fast-paced workload.
  • Ability to work at heights up to 150 feet
