Job Summary and Qualifications

Oversees the administration of respiratory care to patients on his/her assigned shift. Provides support and direction for staff as needed. Responsible for orientating and mentoring all new and present employees. Assist with the development and revision of policies and procedures. Will assist supervisors with all Quality Improvement initiatives, provide in-services on all new equipment and assist with home noninvasive patient teaching. Assists manager with eProcurement and charge reconciliation. 



GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES 


  • Directs departmental staff in the performance of their duties 


  • Analyzes the shift report and divides therapies among the on-shift personnel and assigns work areas and maintains complete staff/patient assignment records 100% of the time.  


  • Determines oncoming shift needs and staffs accordingly  


  • Coordinates department function with other hospital departments. 


  • Coordinates the desired student experience with the shift’s therapy opportunities 


  • Observes and documents staff work performance and forwards identified problems/issues to the Coordinator, Manager or Director. 


  • Monitors the shift to assure safe and accurate respiratory care delivery 


  • Assesses workflow and offers relief as needed  


  • Ensures new/changed orders are communicated to the responsible therapist 


  • Obtains equipment and supplies as needed to meet patient needs 


  • Responds to all Respiratory Therapy related emergencies 


  • Resolves technical problems when systems deviate from the established performance specification  


  • Addresses employee and customer related issues according to hospital policy. 


  • Supports Orientees on shift as necessary to provide optimal learning experience 


  • Educates, orientates and mentors all new and present employees 


  • Assist with Quality Initiatives and any other assigned duties for the Supervisors 


  • Promotes customer relations within the organization and in the community 


  • Communicates with staff and customers to promote quality guest relations  


  • Maintains and supports a service-oriented relationship with all customers  


  • Respects and maintains the confidentiality of information relative to customers  


  • Strives to maintain a positive work environment 


  • Creates a supportive climate by serving as a role model of guest relations behavior. 


  • Communicates via written, verbal face-to-face, telephone and computer methods. 


  • Functions as respiratory care protocol assessor 


  • Assesses patient per physician-approved criteria (RCP) within 1 hour of receipt of order and documents same  


  • Writes correct therapy orders based on accurate triage score in physician’s order sheet under “RCP”  


  • Delivers initial therapies as ordered  


  • Reassesses patient within established time frame, changing therapy as indicated and documents same in departmental records 


  • Conveys all RCP therapies-initial and changes-to appropriate staff members and documents same in departmental records 

  • Performs miscellaneous job duties as assigned including occasionally accompanying a patient during transport to another facility. 


What qualifications you will need:

  • Advanced Cardiac Life Spt must be obtained within 90 days of employment start date
  • Basic Cardiac Life Support must be obtained within 30 days of employment start date
  • Neonate Resuscitate must be obtained within 90 days of employment start date
  • (NBRC-RRT) Registered Respiratory Therapist
  • (RRT/RCP-State) Respiratory Therapist/Practitioner
  • Associate Degree

No Travel Required
