JOB TITLE: Lead Security Officer

DEPARTMENT: Security

CLASSIFICATION: Exempt, Salaried, Full-time (may require night, holiday, inclement weather, and/or weekend work)

JOB SUMMARY:

The Security Lead performs advanced security duties to support the safety, security, and well-being of Evangel University's campus, properties, and community members. This role serves as a senior-level officer who provides operational support during assigned shifts, assists with coordination of daily activities, and acts as a resource to other officers, without supervisory or disciplinary authority.

The lead conducts patrols, responds to incidents, enforces regulations, and supports a secure campus environment through proactive community engagement. This position does not include responsibilities related to employee supervision, performance management, scheduling authority, or personnel actions, and operates under the direction of the Operations Manager or Director.

ADMINISTRATOR: Director of Security

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Campus Patrols: Conduct regular vehicle and foot patrols to maintain campus safety. Observe for unauthorized activities, respond to incidents, and secure facilities by checking doors, windows, and building integrity.
  • Hazard Mitigation: Identify and report unsafe conditions or hazards to appropriate personnel. Assist in addressing risks related to injury, theft, or property damage.
  • Parking & Traffic Enforcement: Enforce parking and traffic regulations, issue citations, assist with traffic direction, and coordinate vehicle towing when required.
  • Emergency Response: Respond to emergencies including weather events, fire alarms, medical incidents, and security concerns. Follow established procedures and notify appropriate leadership.
  • Medical Assistance: Provide CPR/AED and first aid as needed. Maintain required certifications and remain with individuals until relieved by emergency responders.
  • Safety Awareness: Promote safety by engaging with the campus community, sharing information, and supporting education efforts as directed.
  • Community Engagement: Build positive relationships by assisting students, faculty, and visitors with directions, information, and services such as jump-starts and general assistance.
  • Shift Coordination Support: Assist in facilitating smooth shift operations by sharing important updates, relaying pertinent information to incoming personnel, and helping maintain continuity between shifts. This function is supportive only and does not include supervisory authority.
  • Training Support: Assist with onboarding and training of new or existing personnel as directed by leadership, including the Operations Manager or Director. Serve as a resource for best practices and procedural guidance.
  • Professional Development: Maintain knowledge of current security practices through training and professional development.
  • Firearm Proficiency: Maintain required department standards for firearms qualification and safe handling.
  • Clery Act Compliance: Serve as a Campus Security Authority and ensure proper reporting in accordance with federal requirements.
  • Policy Adherence: Follow all departmental and university policies and maintain a professional standard of conduct.
  • Additional Responsibilities: Perform other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCE:

Education:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.

Experience:

  • Minimum two years of experience in safety, security, parking enforcement, fire prevention, or related fields (e.g., law enforcement, military police).
  • Previous leadership or senior officer experience preferred (informal or situational leadership only; no supervisory requirement).
  • Education in Law Enforcement or Criminal Justice may substitute for experience on a case-by-case basis.

Skills:

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Knowledge of patrol techniques, safety practices, and traffic control.
  • Ability to respond effectively in emergency situations and make sound decisions.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to serve as a peer resource.
  • Ability to interpret and apply policies and procedures.
  • Ability to operate emergency vehicles and learn campus geography.

Effort Requirements:

  • Extended standing, walking, and mobility across campus.
  • Ability to climb stairs and lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Work performed primarily outdoors with exposure to varying weather conditions.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Final candidates must pass a background check.
