Description: Lead Security Technician
TradeSTAR is currently hiring an experienced Lead Security Technician for commercial electronic security and integrated low-voltage projects in the San Antonio area. This position is with one of TradeSTAR s established clients supporting large-scale commercial construction, system upgrades, and enterprise-level security installations.
We are seeking a highly skilled technician with leadership experience in commercial security systems, access control, IP video surveillance, and intrusion detection who can lead crews and oversee installations from rough-in through final commissioning.
Job Responsibilities
Lead installation teams on commercial security and access control projects
Coordinate daily activities with project managers, superintendents, and other trades
Install, program, troubleshoot, and commission:
o Access control systems
o IP video surveillance systems
o CCTV camera systems
o Intrusion alarm systems
o Intercom and integrated security platforms
Install and terminate low-voltage cabling for security infrastructure
Install and configure:
o Card readers
o Electrified door hardware
o Mag locks
o Electric strikes
o Motion devices
o Door contacts
o REX devices
o Network-connected security equipment
Terminate and troubleshoot head-end equipment, field devices, and control panels
Build and organize MDF/IDF security infrastructure and network rack systems
Perform system testing, device verification, and final commissioning
Read and interpret:
o Blueprints
o Riser diagrams
o Device layouts
o One-line diagrams
o Sequence of operations
Ensure installations comply with manufacturer specifications, NEC requirements, and commercial low-voltage standards
Maintain accurate project documentation, labeling, and as-built drawings
Oversee quality control, crew productivity, and job site safety compliance
Qualifications
3+ years of commercial electronic security experience
Previous lead technician or foreman experience preferred
Strong knowledge of access control and IP-based security systems
Experience troubleshooting commercial security infrastructure and integrated systems
Familiarity with commercial door hardware and electrified locking systems
Ability to manage crews and maintain project schedules
Experience working in active commercial construction environments
Reliable transportation and industry-standard hand tools required
