The Lead Certified SUD Counselor, working under limited supervision, is responsible for providing direct clinical services to substance use disorder clients while also serving as a clinical resource and mentor to counseling staff. In addition to assessments, treatment planning, and counseling services, the Lead Counselor supports program quality, compliance, and day-to-day clinical operations, and acts as a liaison between counseling staff and the Clinical Supervisor.

 

How will I contribute

 

  • Provide individual and group counseling, case management, education, community outreach, and referrals to appropriate services and community resources.
  • Conduct assessments of psychological and social functioning and develop, implement, and regularly review Individual Treatment Plans in accordance with Title IX regulations and program protocols.
  • Facilitate intake and program orientation for participants as assigned.
  • Identify behaviors that impede rehabilitation and apply appropriate therapeutic interventions.
  • Conduct breathalyzer and/or saliva testing as required and accurately document results.
  • Prepare participant progress reports and clinical documentation as needed.
  • Interact with the criminal justice system and referral sources when necessary.
  • Serve as a clinical resource and point of contact for counseling staff regarding program procedures, documentation standards, and clinical workflows.
  • Promote consistency in counseling practices, group facilitation, and documentation across the program.
  • Support onboarding of new counseling staff by modeling best practices and providing informal guidance as requested.
  • Provide clinical input and recommendations to the Clinical Supervisor regarding participant progress and program needs.
  • Assist with coordination of schedules, group coverage, and caseload flow to support program operations.
  • Monitor and maintain participant files, charts, attendance schedules, progress notes, and required documentation to ensure compliance with Title IX regulations and program policies.
  • Ensure timely completion of vocational, educational, self-help, aftercare, and make-up session documentation.
  • Monitor participant payments and fees; assist with fee collection and conduct financial assessment interviews in accordance with Title IX regulations and program protocols.
  • Recommend participant status actions (leave of absence, suspension, reinstatement, completion, dismissal) in accordance with Title IX regulations and program policies.
  • Abide by all Kings View policies and procedures, including confidentiality requirements (Title IX, Title 42, and HIPAA/Privacy).
  • Communicate openly and consistently with the Clinical Supervisor and support staff to support program effectiveness, including caseload balance, scheduling, and group capacity.
  • Attend scheduled staff meetings and participate in program improvement initiatives.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support the overall functioning and success of the program.
  • Use of company vehicles is subject to monitoring for safety and compliance in accordance with California privacy laws. Employees assigned driving responsibilities must acknowledge and consent to such monitoring.

 

What I bring

 

  • Associate degree: Behavioral/Social Sciences
  • Driver’s License: Class C
  • Alcohol and Drug Certification, in good standing by an agency approved and recognized by the Department of Health Care Services (DHCS) is required at time of hire
  • 3 years of experience providing direct substance use disorder counseling services in a licensed or regulated treatment setting. Associate degree or the equivalent sixty college semester units with emphasis in behavioral or social sciences if required for the position. Three years abstinence if there is a history of substance abuse. Completion of 40 hours per two-year period of related training is required for continued employment for registered/certified counselors. Ongoing continuing education is required to maintain certification and comply with Title IX and program standards.
  • Must maintain counselor certification as required by State law. Knowledge and compliance with CLAS standards. Working knowledge of Title IX regulations, documentation standards, and compliance requirements in a substance use disorder treatment program.
  • Relate to others comfortably and able to establish and maintain effective relationships. Strong verbal, written and interpersonal skills. Integrity to handle sensitive information in a confidential manner.
  • Action oriented. Strong problem-solving skills. Excellent organizational skills and ability to multi-task and juggle multiple priorities. Outstanding ability to follow through with tasks. Flexible and reliable. Fast learner, organized, can deal with changing environment, ability to get along well with others, team player.
  • Membership in the California Association of DUI Treatment Programs (CADTP) is encouraged
