Job Summary and Qualifications

​​The Lead Surgical Technologist delivers high quality, patient-centered care by performing various functions to support the efficient operation of the surgical suite. Under the supervision of the Circulating RN, the Lead Surgical Technologist prepares the surgical suite, positions and prepares the patient, and provides instruments, equipment, and supplies to the surgical team during the procedure. The Lead Surgical Technologist ensures a sterile field, proper instrument counts, and proper operation of instruments and equipment. The Lead Surgical Technologist participates in patient-specific care as directed and follows service excellence standards to promote optimum patient satisfaction. In addition, the Lead Surgical Technologist assists with ongoing training and/or precepting of new and current employees as directed by the supervisor. The Lead Surgical Technologist is responsible for ensuring new processes, equipment and other changes are communicated and/or taught to other Surgical Technologists.​   Your responsibilities will include: 

  • Leading surgical preparation by organizing suites, equipment, and instruments to ensure readiness for every procedure 
  • Scrubbing in and supporting surgeons through complex cardiac surgeries, anticipating needs and maintaining a safe, sterile environment 
  • Guiding and mentoring surgical technologists, serving as a role model while training new team members and reinforcing best practices 
  • Overseeing quality and safety by managing counts, handling specimens, and ensuring compliance with infection prevention standards
  • Driving teamwork and efficiency through effective communication, rapid problem-solving, and support for on-call and emergency cases 

What qualifications you will need:


  • Basic Cardiac Life Support must be obtained within 30 days of employment start date
  • (ST) Surgical Technologist
