LEAD TEACHER-BURR ELEMENTARY

The job description is illustrative and not a complete itemization of all duties and responsibilities of the position.

The Lead Teacher will:

  • Retain all teaching responsibilities.
  • Assist with the orientation of new teachers.
  • Co-chair School Improvement Team with the principal.
  • Assist with parent engagement and communication.
  • Assist with the development of schedules.
  • Assist in planning of staff development activities.
  • Fill in for the principal in his/her short term absences.
  • Assist with student discipline.
  • Perform any additional tasks as assigned by the principal.

The Lead Teacher must be able to:

  • Maintain a stationary position for extended periods of time to operate computer, printer, telephone and other desktop equipment.
  • Move about school to conduct and attend meetings and meet with staff and students.
  • Communicate with staff, parents, and stakeholders virtually and in-person.
  • Utilize technology to support communication, develop schedules, etc.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

May be representative, but not all-inclusive of those associated with the position.

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects at the same time.
  • Ability to make independent judgments within areas of responsibility.
  • Ability to meet deadlines.
  • Strong collaborative skills to build and maintain high-functioning relationships with all stakeholders and professionals.

  • None

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education or related field of Education.
  • Candidate is a full-time certified staff member in that building

Certification

  • CT Teacher certification

Work Year

  • This is a stipend position - 10 months plus two summer days.

Stipend

  • Per HKEA contract

Exempt/Non-Exempt

  • This position is exempt and affiliated.

Reporting Responsibility

  • The Lead Teacher reports to the Building Principal.
