The Pre-Primary Lead Teacher delivers the Montessori curriculum to students during the regular school year and Summer Discovery School. The position is also responsible for classroom activities in the Kids Club program (before and after school).
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Supervises all Teachers and Assistant Teachers in the assigned classroom. Provides the necessary instruction and training for those assisting in the classroom environment.
Delegates specific classroom instructional and supervisory duties to Teachers and Assistant Teachers that are consistent with the Montessori curriculum set forth in the school's curriculum and the state of Michigan guidelines for school and child care operations.
Delivers classroom instruction and student activities, including development of lesson plans and classroom materials, with the assistance of Teachers and Assistant Teachers.
Creates an exciting and challenging learning environment, using the Montessori pedagogy, for all children.
Monitors all children during school activities to ensure their safety, health, and well-being and ensures compliance with all Licensing Rules as determined by the State of Michigan.
Prepares student files, log/journal, and progress reports with the assistance of Teachers and Assistant Teachers.
Attends all staff meetings, in-service training, and other events, workshops and seminars as requested by the School Director.
Ensures open lines of communication with parents. Is available to parents through written communication, setting up conferences, and educating parents in the Montessori philosophy.
Promotes good communication among staff members.
Attends Open Houses, Orientations, Parent Tours, and conducts individual new family interviews as requested by the School Director.
Acts as interim Director when School Director is off premises.
Performs other duties as assigned by the School Director.
Maintains consistent and regular attendance as an essential function of the position of Pre-Primary Lead Teacher.
Minimum Qualifications
Minimum of 3 years' experience in a Montessori school.
Montessori credential issued by the Association Montessori International (AMI), American Montessori Society (AMS), or any other Montessori teacher training institution recognized by the Montessori Accreditation Council for Teacher Education (MACTE) that meets or exceeds 270 hours of academic training.
