Lead Teaching Assistant (Internal Applicants Only)

The Langan School (a program of the Center for Disability Services) is a private, non-profit school for students with severe disabilities between the ages of 5 and 21.  This is a 10 month program, with a mandatory six week summer programThe Lead Teaching Assistant contributes to the mission of the Center for Disability Services and Children’s Services division by taking a lead role in assisting the teacher and therapists with carrying out activities designed to address goals as outlined in the students’ Individualized Educational Programs (IEP’s). The duties may include, but are not limited to; leading a classroom in the teacher’s absence, entering IEP Direct data, daily classroom preparation, as well as all other Teaching Assistant responsibilities. 

Education Required:

High School diploma or equivalent

Specialized training, license, certification, skills:Current New York State Teaching Assistant Certification

Experience Required:

At least 2 years of job related experience, specifically in working withchildren or individuals with disabilities

Responsibilities:

  • Assist the teacher with activities designed to address student’s needs as outlined on their Individualized Education Plans (IEPs).
  • Duties may include preparing classroom materials, direct instruction of students, and custodial care of students.

For over 75 years, the Center for Disability Services has been one of upstate New York’s largest providers of programs and services for individuals who have disabilities.
