Job Summary
Purpose
The purpose of this role is to support the technical services required to support the collection, analysis, integration, and utilization of railcar system data to enhance maintenance operations and improve reliability across rail divisions. This effort will support data-driven decision-making and the effective use of the IBM Maximo Work Order Management System.
Job Duties and Responsibilities
Support railcar systems data acquisition
Identify and interface with onboard railcar systems, including but not limited to:
Propulsion and traction control systems
Brake control systems
HVAC systems
Door control systems
Event recorders
Diagnostic control modules
Telematics and communication gateways
Obtain operational and fault data via:
Ethernet/IP or serial communication protocols
CAN bus interfaces
Wireless telemetry systems
Data log downloads (manual or automated)
Cloud-hosted fleet monitoring platforms (where applicable)
Data Processing and Analysis
Clean, validate, and normalize raw system data
Analyze fault codes, event logs, performance parameters, and condition-monitoring data.
Identify:
Recurring failure modes
Component degradation trends
Reliability patterns
Mean Time Between Failures (MTBF)
Root cause indicators
Correlate diagnostic data with maintenance history and operational usage.
Develop dashboards, reports, and analytics models that:
Support predictive maintenance strategies
Highlight high-risk assets
Prioritize work orders based on risk and operational impact
Ensure proper data extraction without impacting system integrity or vehicle safety.
Document system architecture and data flow diagrams for each vehicle type or fleet.
Attend or coordinate project-related meetings to inform the team regarding the current status of project financials, articulating problem projects and following up on any identified actions as discussed.
Create and submit government reports related to projects.
Compile information for internal and external auditors and formal audit responses as required.
Work with cross-functional finance teams (e.g. Billing, Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Project Set-Up) in executing project work.
Comply with regulatory requirements pertaining to the data integrity, documentation, procedures, training, monitoring systems, and record compliance and retention.
Interact with regulatory agencies, subcontractors, and clients in a confident and professional manner.
Mentor and/or train other project accountants and/or interns as needed
Remain current in latest project technical principles and subject matter.
Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP's Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.
