Job Summary:

The Lead Telecommunications Infrastructure Technician/Installer IV position is an experienced professional who independently executes complex field activities related to installing, maintaining, and servicing telecommunications equipment. This role requires extensive industry knowledge and the ability to guide less experienced installers.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Understands and follows Telamon's established safety practices and procedures. • Properly use and maintain personal protective equipment (PPE). • Performs additions, removals, and modifications on working equipment and circuits, including: • Circuit modifications • Software additions or upgrades • Power transition work • Addition or removal of batteries • Addition or removal of circuits on working power distribution sources • Installs, configures, and integrates telecommunication equipment such as switches, routers, fiber optics, and power systems in central office environments. • Mounts racks, frames, and shelves, ensuring all equipment is securely and correctly installed. • Performs cable installation, termination, labeling, and lacing, adhering to industry standards. • Properly tests and troubleshoots fiber/copper installations. • Performs power verification and power up equipment. • Tests and evaluates systems to determine efficiency, reliability, and compatibility with existing systems. • Conducts diagnostic tests on systems and equipment using tools like OTDRs, power meters, and spectrum analyzers. • Maintains quality awareness and implements quality control processes. • Performs in-process and final quality inspections. • Reads and stays current on installation documentation. • Successfully interprets drawings, plans, and specifications. • Interprets the job plan and scope of work, as well as performs retrofits and upgrades for existing infrastructure. • Makes recommendations based on applicable codes, standards, and best practices. • Discusses media selection and implications for implementation on the network. • Resolves job specification and/or drawing problems. • Marks/corrects office record drawings. • Accurately documents installation, testing, and maintenance activities, including as-built drawings and change logs. • Executes the essential duties and responsibilities of Installer III, plus additional leadership duties. • Provides work instruction to Level I, II, and III Installers; Provides work assignments to Level 1 and 2 Installers. • May serve as Site Crew Leader. • May perform as the installation in-charge person. • Performs as the Installation in-charge person on Common Systems jobs as needed. • Prepares Methods of Procedure (MOP). • Writes Job Information Memorandums (JIMs). • Coordinates with engineers, project managers, and other team members to align installation plans and schedules. • Inventories all job-related material. • Addition or removal of non-powered equipment/hardware. • Addition or removal of wiring and connections (on non-working equipment only and switchboard cable only). • Lead verification/continuity testing. • Analysis of job specifications and drawings.

Managerial Responsibility:

• No direct reports but will provide guidance and oversight to less experienced installers on jobs.

Travel/Shift Requirements:

• Must be available to travel as much as 50% - 75%. • Travel may require overnight stays away from home for 1-2 weeks at a time, including weekends. • Requires ability to work early morning shifts, occasional evening shifts and infrequent weekend work. • Must have reliable transportation and be able to transport minor job-related tools to work locations.

Physical Demands:

• Ability to lift a minimum of 50 lbs. and may be required to lift as much as 100lbs on occasion. • Ability to work on ladders and in confined spaces. • Work with and around electrical wires and ESD products in a safe manner. • Ability to work onsite in central offices, construction, or installation sites. • Requires fine motor skills and manual dexterity for gripping tools and assembling small components. • Ability to stoop, kneel, bend, squat, lift, crawl, push, and pull.

Skills and Abilities Required:

• Proficiency in installing cables, racks, power systems, and grounding systems. • Ability to perform equipment rack mounting, cable lacing, and termination. • Demonstrate comprehensive knowledge of the installation process. • Reads, interpret, and understand technical drawings and documentation. • Familiar with industry standards (AT&T TP-76300 / 76409 / Telcordia GR1275 / Verizon IP72202). • Complete "Basic Installation" training course or equivalent on-the-job training. • Successful completion of Safety, Business Code of Conduct, Quality Assurance, and Electrostatic Discharge (ESD) training. • Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills to identify and resolve technical issues. • Demonstrate meticulous attention to detail by executing installations accurately and ensuring full compliance with industry standards. • Possess a good understanding of the phases of the installation process. • Advanced knowledge of current network products. • Ability to lead and direct less experienced team members to complete projects. • Efficiently manage time to meet project deadlines. • Aptitude and interest in technology with the ability to grasp and apply technical concepts. • Proficiency operating computers, tablets, and MS Office software. • Ability to effectively communicate with team members, supervisors, and other departments. • Possess a valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record and proof of insurance. • Track and record work hours on a timely basis using time-tracking software.

Education and Experience Required:

• High School Diploma or Equivalency. • 2 years of electronics training from a technical trade school or military. • Minimum of 6 years of field service or equivalent combination of education and experience as determined by the Installation Manager or Director. • Exceptions may be made for individuals who successfully completed the previous level in Telamon's Installer Academy Program. • Demonstrate proficiency in relevant Network Elements (1, 2, 3, or 4). • Experience leading, training, and motivating less experienced installers. • Management assessment and approval of proficiency in Level IV Skills.

Education and Experience Preferred:

• 2 years of electronics training from a technical trade school or military.
